**Job Description: Program Assistant, GEP – Room to Read**

 

**Location:** India – Uttarakhand

**Position Overview:**  

The Program Assistant (GEP) will assist in the planning and execution of government engagement for Room to Read’s Girl Education Program (GEP). This role involves overseeing quality, coordination, development, and reporting at the field level. The position requires close interaction with education department officials, school administrators, teachers, and students, as well as travel to districts. The successful candidate will serve as the main point of contact for local government officials and report to the Program Officer.

 

**Key Responsibilities:**  

– Understand and defend Room to Read’s GEP design in various forums.

– Advocate for enabling policies and government orders supporting girl education through participation in technical assistance discussions and government meetings.

– Provide onsite technical assistance to schools, improving library resource utilization.

– Manage relationships with government counterparts, analyze program data, and identify implementation issues.

– Conduct school visits, observe trainings, and discuss field implementation challenges.

– Facilitate training workshops, attend review meetings, and prepare qualitative monthly reports.

– Prepare monthly dashboards and derive trends from data.

 

**Qualifications:**  

– Master’s degree in education, social work, development, or gender studies.

– Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience in gender and life skills programs.

– Experience working closely with schoolteachers and government officials.

– Understanding of Uttarakhand’s educational challenges, including gender issues.

– Proficiency in MS Office for reporting.

– Strong interpersonal, organizational, and facilitation skills.

– Knowledge of Hindi and English.
