Context

The Udaiti Foundation (TUF) is a not-for-profit organisation working on advancing Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) in India. Our focus is on improving the availability and accessibility of quality work for women, engaging the private sector to address demand side barriers to women’s work and entrepreneurship, and creating enablers that can allow for the WEE ecosystem to engage in proven models for creating impact.

The Entrepreneurship vertical at Udaiti is an emerging workstream, taking a unique approach to solving for growing women’s small and micro businesses through a market, credit, and capabilities approach. It aims to work on both policy and programmatic interventions with the government, private sector, and similar intermediaries, to answer the following key questions, among other issues:

What are some innovative, evidence-backed financing solutions that can increase the growth of women nano/ micro enterprises to MSMEs and lead the way in closing the gender credit gap?
How can existing platforms, data, and digital public infrastructure be leveraged/ tailored to build enterprises’ capacity and competitiveness to expand markets and pave the way for semi-formalisation of informal businesses?

Position Summary

We are looking to bring in someone with 2-4 years of work experience as a Program Manager to support the women’s entrepreneurship vertical. They will support knowledge output creation, organisation of convenings, and the design and subsequent implementation of entrepreneurship pilots and programmes.

S/he should have intermediate secondary qualitative and quantitative research skills and techniques, along with a strategic-bent of thinking, and a willingness to learn from stakeholders across the ecosystem. This is a high-energy, self-starting entrepreneurial role and a great opportunity for those who enjoy working in a start-up environment and care deeply about women’s empowerment and the impact sector.

Key Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Identify and review evidence on women’s entrepreneurship to support Udaiti’s engagement on the barriers to women accessing credit, and optimise the design of interventions
  • Conduct research, landscaping analysis and develop reports, project briefs and concept notes, presentations
  • Coordinate meetings with multiple stakeholders and overall programme engagement with different categories of partners (government, private sector, think-tanks)
  • Manage resources in order to deliver on time and at a high level of quality
  • Ensure creation and adoption of high quality assets, methods and standards created during the engagement
  • Work closely with the Entrepreneurship team to deliver on identified opportunities and outcomes with state and central governments (eg, Women Entrepreneurship Platform)
  • Possess a basic understanding and ability of narrative storyboarding for presentations and decks
  • Support the planning and implementation of convening events for key ecosystem stakeholders

Required Qualification, Skills & Abilities:

Skills & Aptitude

  • Understanding of the financial ecosystem – banks, NBFCs, micro-financing institutions, etc – and how they be leveraged and enabled to advance women’s enterprise growth
  • Have an aptitude for finance, exposure to women entrepreneurship initiatives
  • Strong writing and verbal skills in English and ability to communicate complex quantitative & qualitative analyses in a clear, precise, and actionable manner
  • Ability to demonstrate ownership, and work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment as part of a closely-knit team (showcasing patience, tenacity and grace under pressure)
  • High on agility, entrepreneurial mindset and learnability
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of flexibility and responsiveness with the ability to shift priorities quickly and as organisational demands require
  • Comfortable working in hybrid settings with occasional travel for field visits

Knowledge/ Education

  • Bachelor or Masters’ degree in relevant fields, including business or development sector management, economics, public administration, public policy or gender studies
  • 2-4 years of experience with non-profit organisations/ private sector/ think-tanks/ entrepreneurship programmes demonstrating excellent project delivery, team management and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Prior experience in gender, livelihoods, or enterprise is a must

Remuneration

Remuneration will be competitive with Indian philanthropy pay scales and with organisations working with a similar mandate.
