Started in 2007, Milaan is a non-profit organisation, which envisions an inclusive and equal world, where every girl has the knowledge, skills, and social environment to pursue her dreams and explore her full potential.

Our primary work is focused on and with young women between 12-18 years of age from socially and economically marginalized communities. Milaan aims to empower adolescent girls by addressing 4 dimensions that we have identified as critical for their well-being: 1) Completion of Secondary Education, 2) Adolescent Health, 3) Enhanced Agency, and 4) Prevention of Gender-based Discrimination and Violence.

Position Overview

We are looking for a Program Manager to oversee the implementation of the Unmukt Program and lead a diverse team towards success. The person should have a passion for working on issues around women’s rights, adolescent leadership and VAWG and is looking to learn through on-ground implementation and direct interaction with program participants.

About Unmukt Program

The Unmukt program aims to address VAWG in rural public spaces in Uttar Pradesh by enabling girls and women to claim public spaces, fundamental for their aspirations, as their right, and create new narratives challenging the old ones which perpetuated the fear of violence.

To change the social narratives, the program will invest in movement building and work with adolescents and women at the grassroots to be the voice of influence, empower them with skills to initiate data-driven constructive and inclusive dialogues within communities, and instigate a collective call for action against gender-based violence

Responsibilities

1. Program Planning:

● Work with the Project Director to develop and execute an implementation plan for the program.

● Anchor the documentation of changes on the ground through shifts in social norms and narratives.

● Contribute to and develop concept notes and proposals.

2. Program Implementation

● Oversee on-ground implementation of the behaviour change communication curriculum and toolkit with 3000 adolescent girls and boys to start advocating for safe public spaces in rural Uttar Pradesh.

● Monitor the journey of 20 women community leaders (known as Unmukt Fellows) for advocacy with relevant stakeholders on the issue of VAWG and making public spaces safer for women and girls.

● Ensure the formation and strengthening of village child protection committees (VCPC) at the Gram Panchayat level in the selected blocks.

● Support the Project Director in designing and planning residential and online training for the Unmukt Fellows

● With support from Project Director, design the mentorship journey and identify, onboard and assign mentors to Unmutk Fellows

3. Capacity Building

● Work closely with the Project Director to develop a training plan for the team and build capacities to effectively implement the program.

● Provide support to the team to ensure their well-being.

4. Documentation and Reporting

● Ensure timely submission of documentation from the ground.

● Document success stories and develop case studies, profiles etc. of program participants.

● Lead program reporting and ensure all internal and external (donor/partner) reports are submitted timely and are of high quality.

5. Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning

● Coordinate the MEL and impact documentation of both the changemakers program and the adolescent program for external and internal dissemination

Qualifications and Skills

● University Degree in Social Work, Social Sciences, Gender, Human Rights or other related fields.

● Minimum 6 years of professional experience implementing and developing programs for adolescent empowerment and/or addressing VAWG. Awareness and knowledge of VAWG issues.

● Excellent communications skill in English is a must since the role requires developing high-quality documents and representing the organization on various platforms.

● Good knowledge of Hindi is a requirement as the program participants’ native language is Hindi and all communication with program participants will be in Hindi.

● Excellent report writing, documentation and presentation skills.

● Good facilitation and training skills to build capacities.

● Well-versed with digital and online communications skills, training and team-building processes.

Willingness and openness to travel especially to rural areas.
