Job Description

To provide support to policy and progamme activities that effectively  implements portfolio of support to the Government’s work in social protection and public systems by providing technical assistance, innovation and capacity strengthening to the National and State governments to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of government programmes and systems that ensure access to food so that the Government can achieve its targets under SDG 2, by 2030, in line with WFP India’s Strategic Plan.

job holder will operate with a high degree of independence. The position requires high level of technical competency in supply chain, data analytics, and technology some of which may be of a considerable complexity, manage team to ensure planned objectives are achieved in full.

Job Responsibilities

Under the direct reporting to the Head of Unit for Social Protection and Supply chain, WFP India and overall guidance of the Country Director, the position will contribute towards development of projects and plans, review of best practices, process, and policies for achievement of targeted performance in the following areas of accountability:

  • Contribute towards the development of a wide variety of projects, plans and processes, ensuring alignment with wider programme policies and guidance.
  • Serve as Deputy Head of the Social Protection and Supply Chain unit in WFP India Country Office, including support on human resource management and financial management for the unit.
  • Provide project management support to programmes and projects supporting social protection and supply chain strengthening, ensuring a coordinated approach with other units, in compliance with WFP standards and procedures.
  • Develop and coordinate data analytics and associated processes and systems, ensuring that rigorous quality standards are maintained.
  • Research and analyse a range of policy and operational issues to inform the development of policies, programmes and activities that can strengthen the efficiency and effectiveness of government systems, including the Public Distribution System.
  • Contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reporting on programmes and activities that enable informed decision making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders.
  • Liaise with internal and external counterparts to ensure effective collaboration, monitor ongoing projects and highlight potential risks to project delivery.
  • Support the identification, development and management of potential partnerships to collaborative working leading to improved engagement with government counterparts.
  • Support the capacity building of WFP staff, partners and national and state government for national capacity strengthening.
  • Guide and supervise staff, acting as a point of referral and supporting them with analysis and queries.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of postgraduate (Master’s degree) working experience in areas related to social protection and public systems.
  • The candidate also has the following knowledge, skills and related work experience:
  • Has deepened technical knowledge of social protection and data analytics and can relate them to policy makers
  • Have working knowledge of Internet of Things (IoT), supply chain, GPS based tracking and data analytics using industry standard tools such as Tableau.
  • Has  working experience in  designing and implementing projects.
  • Has experience working with government and/or private sector in the areas of food security, supply chain planning, execution, transportation; project design and management.
  • Experience in working independently with minimum supervision, often in fluid and ambiguous situations will be required.

Minimum academic qualifications:

  • Education: Advanced University degree in Business Administration, Project Management, International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Supply Chain, Engineering, Social Sciences, or other field relevant or First University Degree with additional five years of  related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
  • Language: Fluency (level C) in English language and Hindi.
