Programme Title: Desert Landscape Programme – A Community-based Conservation Approach in the Thar 

Position Title: Project Coordinator 

Reports to: Programme Head – Desert Landscape Programme 

Location: Jaisalmer – working from the field (Kanoi village) 

Duration: 1 year, with a probation period of 3 months 

Salary Structure: Offered as per qualification and experience

About us: The Wildlife Conservation Society-India works to conserve wildlife backed by science. 

We partner with governmental and non-governmental organizations to deal with conservation challenges. We work in wildlife conservation through a community-based approach. 

Project Brief: Through this programme, we aim to engage with communities. Our main aim is to bring the local community onto the platform where they can celebrate the desert landscape and its wildlife. The key activities in the programme are Veterinary camps for basic precautionary care, Awareness through an educational programme, Stakeholder engagement and partnerships, and assessing traditional ecological knowledge. 

Roles and responsibilities for the post:  

  • Coordinate the programme in the Desert landscape of Jaisalmer with the field team and community members 
  • Work with the community and stakeholders – get regular follow-ups to get updates on the work  
  • Admin-related work activities with respect to the project at the field base 
  • Documentation of the programme activities 
  • Data entry

Essential Qualifications, experience, and Skills: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in any discipline with an interest in nature conservation but, most importantly, the desire to work with people in community conservation work. 
  • Prior experience of 1-2 years is preferred, but we also encourage freshers to apply 
  • Strong interpersonal skills in communicating with people in Hindi 
  • Proficiency in English and Hindi (writing, speaking, and editing the drafts and material, etc.) to work in awareness and outreach-based activities 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 
  • Ability and willingness to work in harsh conditions in the desert landscape.
