  • Evidence Generation: We conduct monitoring and evaluation of activities to inform the public about the value of food fortification

Position overview

The QS Manager will be based in Pune, Indore or Bhopal (with up to 30% of their time including travel to other locations in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, and Hyderabad). This role will involve a combination of technical, managerial, and strategic work around Fortify Health’s Quality systems. The QS Manager will need to have a deep understanding of quality assurance and control in the food manufacturing sector, the ability to think both at the systems as well as the granular level, and excellent people management skills. The QS Manager will streamline technical processes followed by the Monitoring & Evaluation (M & E) team to ensure the quality of fortification in our partner mills. They will also help set up coordination and communication systems to ensure smooth coordination between the Program and the M&E teams. 

They have the exciting opportunity to bring their unique experience into this role, as they will be the first manager in the M&E team and will be an essential part of Fortify Health’s growth. They will report to Fortify Health’s Director of Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation. Depending on performance and organizational needs, the  QS Manager will have the potential to grow into a senior leadership role in the future within the organization.. 

Responsibilities and activities

  • Manage the QC team
  • Streamline existing workflows and SOPs and also support the Director of Research and M&E to develop new ones to ensure smooth implementation of  quality assurance systems in our partner mills
  • Streamline existing workflows and SOPs and also support the Director of Research and M&E to develop new ones to ensure smooth data collection, analysis and sharing of data from partner mills across the organization
  • Collaborate effectively with the Program Manager(s) and Regulatory Affairs team to ensure the smooth implementation of Fortify Health’s processes
  • Support and lead selected R&D and innovation across quality assurance and control, and digitization of data management and analysis
  • Support  in funder reporting and any bespoke reporting 
  • Innovate new technical processes to optimize Fortify Health’s quality assurance and quality measurement work
  • Support the Director of Research and M&E in exploring future opportunities for strengthening quality control processes through research studies and audits.
  • Ensure that the quality control processes are adhered as per the SOPs/Guidelines and report the findings from quality measurement to relevant stakeholders. 
  • Work on the corrective and preventive action plans to minimize the quality issues in the fortification process. 
  • Ensure the QC team is set to develop and grow and provides guidance and support to learning opportunities within the team and identify bright spots

Requirements

  • Experience in quality assurance in the food manufacturing/nutrition sector
  • Experience and interest in building quality systems at scale
  • Bachelors or higher degree in related field (food technology, milling engineering, biotechnology, nutrition sciences, chemistry, or another related field)
  • Excellent people management skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, from managing relationships between various stakeholders to relaying important quality assurance and impact findings in an accessible way
  • Prior experience managing teams in a growing organization will be an added advantage

  • Authorization to work in India (Indian national, eligibility for OCI, etc.)

Desirable attributes

  • Experience working with remote team members
  • Experience working independently with minimum supervision.
  • Relevant experience in public health or research
  • Relevant experience in the NGO field environment 
  • Scientific literacy to understand the finer points of fortification through the academic literature

Terms of employment: Two year contract, renewal by mutual agreement

Salary and benefits: INR 1,06,180 per month (inclusive of taxes)
