**Job Summary:**
Lead IWMI’s economics research on water-food-energy-climate policies in South Asia, primarily India and Bangladesh. This role involves developing research proposals, managing projects, conducting high-quality research, and engaging with stakeholders to influence policy and programs aimed at sustainable resource use and poverty reduction. The position requires strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as experience in economic modeling and policy analysis within the context of water resource management.
**Responsibilities:**
* Conduct research on poverty reduction, livelihood diversification, environmental sustainability, climate change adaptation, the water-energy-food nexus, sustainable clean energy irrigation, and climate-smart agriculture.
* Lead interdisciplinary research projects and partnerships with government and non-government stakeholders, including financial and project management.
* Identify and pursue research funding opportunities.
* Develop research proposals for external donors.
* Contribute to interdisciplinary projects within IWMI and CGIAR Science Programs.
* Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders (government, donors) for project implementation and policy advocacy.
* Translate research findings into policy recommendations and disseminate information through policy briefs and publications.
* Author/co-author peer-reviewed publications.
**Requirements:**
**Essential:**
* PhD in economics (development economics, agricultural economics, or environmental economics) OR a Master’s degree in a related field with a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and 10 years of relevant experience.
* Demonstrated understanding of development challenges, particularly concerning the water-energy-food nexus, solar irrigation, and groundwater governance in India and Bangladesh.
* Experience in water-related research or the application of development/natural resource economics to water and agriculture.
* Significant experience in micro-econometrics, economic modeling, and optimization for analyzing production, food security, and environmental issues.
* Minimum 5 years of research for development experience.
* Proven publication record in relevant international peer-reviewed journals.
**Desirable:**
* Experience in farm-level survey design, data collection, and policy analysis.
* Established network of research and field partners in India and Bangladesh.
* Ability to design and apply research to understand behavioral models and farmer preferences using choice experiments or adoption studies.
* Ability to design and analyze quasi-experimental or randomized control trials related to price and finance incentives and water-related innovations.
* Ability to develop and apply statistical and computational models (e.g., linear programming, agent-based modeling) for resource allocation, demand management, and policy interventions.
* Knowledge of regional languages.
