Purpose

The CEEW’s sustainable water programme is informing policy-making for the sustainable development of water resources, and their effective management through research in the areas of river basin planning, water-energy nexus, water use efficiency, wastewater treatment and reuse, and climate-resilient water systems.

For its sustainable water programme, CEEW seeks to hire a Research Analyst having good exposure to policies and programmes in India’s water sector. An ideal candidate should understand the water management issues and challenges, their linkages with the energy and agriculture sectors in India, and be able to analyse the water-energy-food nexus. Along with policy analysis, the candidate should possess strong data analysis skills, be proficient in using statistical tools, and support the organisation in extending its network with the government and non-government stakeholders in the Indian states.

Job duties and accountabilities

Research:

  • Competent in undertaking analysis of public policies related to water, energy and agriculture sectors
  • Have a good understanding of policy coherence and convergence
  • Assist in the development of qualitative and quantitative research methodology
  • Conduct primary surveys, including design of the field research, develop questionnaires, and coordinate field activities
  • Undertake analysis of primary and secondary datasets on water, energy, and agriculture using statistical tools
  • Assist or preferably independently write high-quality research reports
  • Generate knowledge content – blogs, policy briefs, op-eds, etc. at regular intervals​

Project Assistance:

  • Assist in preparing presentations, fact sheets, and other research communication material
  • Assist and accompany senior team members for important meetings and sessions, prepare notes, and conduct follow-ups, as required
  • Assist in effective outreach of research outputs, through coordination with the outreach team, engagement with a wider network of stakeholders, and concerned policymakers
  • Present research outputs to key stakeholders if needed
  • Travel to project sites, when required, to monitor field surveys, conduct interviews or collect data for different research projects
  • Any other assistance that may be required

Selection Criteria

Qualification and work experience:

  • Master’s degree in water resources management/policy, agriculture water management/policy, or a related field
  • Up to 2 years of relevant work experience.

Key Skills

  • Should have strong analytical skills, with experience in handling/coordinating field research and data collection
  • Competent in preparing questionnaires/formats for field data collection
  • Proficiency in using statistical tools, MS Office application suite, and ability to process water, energy, and agriculture related data sets
  • Ability to summarise and communicate the insights/findings as reports and presentations
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrate strong networking skills and ability to represent the organisation on the national and international platforms
