The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) is looking to hire a Research Assistant / Analyst / Associate to work in the Minerals & Mining team, a part of the Energy, Natural Resources & Sustainability domain.

The Minerals & Mining team is conducting policy-relevant research on how India can build an internationally competitive and financially viable non-fuel minerals and mining sector, accounting for the welfare of mining-affected communities and environmental externalities. Some of the current areas of research focus include (but are not limited to):

  • Critical minerals needed for India’s green transition
  • Mining policy framework to enable the sustainable growth of the sector
  • Environmental externalities and associated climate change risks
  • Welfare of communities affected by mining
  • Mining Equipment, Technology and Services used in the value chain
  • Economics of minerals and mining in India including trade, demand and taxation

Key Functions:

The specific functions will depend on the experience and designation of the candidate. The core job will include literature reviews, information and data gathering/compilation, preparing case studies, analyses, and stakeholder interviews. These will lead to co-authoring (and authoring) research work relevant to policy discourse.

In addition, an important task is to play a role in all institutional activities, such as helping with organising and managing events.

Remuneration is competitive with other organisations in the public policy research field.

Key Requisites:

  • The candidate must have at least an undergraduate degree in any field
    • Examples of preferred relevant fields include those in Mining, Economics, Engineering, Energy, Science, Sustainability and Statistics
    • Candidates with higher qualifications and some experience are welcome
    • The designation offered to the candidate will be based on qualifications and experience
  • Interest in rigorous policy-oriented research related to the non-fuel mining or allied sectors (e.g., environment, communities, metals, energy)
  • Good writing skills are essential
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office and other relevant tools (e.g., MS Excel, Stata, R, GIS)
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team and communicate efficiently
