The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) is currently seeking to expand its team in the field of Climate Change and Sustainability. We are in search of a budding economist to fill the position of a Research Assistant/Associate (with a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience), who is passionate about conducting policy research on various aspects of climate change, energy transition, and sustainable development. The ideal candidate should have a keen interest in mitigation and adaptation strategies related to the challenges of climate change in India. They should have a comprehensive understanding of the economics of climate change, particularly market-based instruments. Furthermore, candidates should possess basic knowledge of Input-Output (I-O)/Social Accounting Matrix (SAM)/Computable General Equilibrium (CGE), along with research experience in conducting literature surveys and basic quantitative analysis.

It draws on the expertise of its researchers, extensive interactions with policy makers as well as convening power to enhance the impact of research. Our researchers work across the domains of Economic Growth and Development including Health, Urbanization; Energy, Natural Resources, Climate change and Sustainability; and Foreign Policy and Security. All our research and policy recommendations are freely available to the public.
CSEP is based in New Delhi and registered as a company limited by shares and not for profit, under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 1956 (now Section 8 of Companies Act, 2013).
Key Requisites
- Advanced degree in Economics, preferably with one to two years of relevant work experience.
- Basic Knowledge of I-O/SAM/CGE.
- Understanding of issues pertaining to India’s sustainable growth vis-à-vis other developing and developed countries.
- Strong analytical and writing skills, preferably demonstrated in relevant and recent publications.
- Ability to work on multiple studies simultaneously, under the guidance from senior/associate fellows.
- Interest in and ability to pursue inter-disciplinary research.
- Advanced understanding of MS Excel, and knowledge of software such as Stata, R or GAMS would be an added advantage.
- Experience in conducting literature survey and basic quantitative analysis.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
- The Research Assistant/Associate would be expected to support the conceptualization of research studies, and undertake them under the supervision of senior/associate fellows and other team members. Data analysis using MS Excel and conducting literature surveys are key job responsibilities. Further, the candidate would need to have good verbal and presentation skills.
