Overview

The ICRW REBUILD team is looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working and results oriented qualitative research consultant to conduct data collection and analysis and provide overall assistance in conducting a qualitative research study, under the REBUILD program.
The REBUILD program aims at understanding the social and economic impact of policy responses to the COVID-19 pandemic on women who work in the urban informal economy and adopts an intersectional approach to examine how the pandemic and lockdown related shocks interacted with pre-existing gender norms to impact the livelihoods, experiences of gender-based violence and sexual and reproductive health outcomes for informal women workers.
The consultant will be expected to undertake activities related to planning for the upcoming qualitative research study as well as carry out primary data collection and analysis in the NCR region (Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurgaon) once the study begins. The consultant will also be expected to assist with carrying out literature review for the program, including research on existing studies that have looked at the vulnerabilities experienced by specific categories of informal women workers, such as street vendors and domestic workers during the pandemic and lockdown.

Principal Responsibilities and Deliverables:

Assist the research team with:

  • Refining IDI and KII tools for qualitative research study
  • Conducting IDIs with informal women workers in NCR region (Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad)
  • Transcription of interviews
  • Data Coding and Analysis

Literature review

Adding to existing literature review on the following themes:

  • Analysis of specific analytical frameworks used to study impact of pandemic and lockdown on vulnerable populations in low-income countries 
  • Impact of COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown on economic vulnerability of informal workers in low-income countries, with specific reference to India
  • Impact of COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown on experience of gender-based violence, access to sexual and reproductive health services and coping strategies
  • Analysis of the experience of women street vendors and domestic workers during the pandemic and lockdown in India

Any other tasks assigned by the team

The consultant will be working at ICRW’s Asia regional office in Delhi with the REBUILD team. We are looking for someone who is a self-starter, highly motivated with strong research and communication skills.

Education:

Master’s degree in Social Sciences/Development Studies/or any relevant field.

Experience:

Minimum 3-6 years relevant work experience in working with research organizations or NGOS.

Additionally:

  • Experience conducting background research and literature reviews and writing literature review reports.
  • Experience conducting qualitative research (IDIs, KIIs, FGDs).
  • Experience of conducting data analysis from qualitative studies.

Remuneration will be commensurate to the experience and close match of profile as per requirements mentioned in the JD.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated organizational, communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Excellent command of the English language (written and spoken).
  • Good command over spoken Hindi.
  • Must be detail oriented, flexible, eager to take initiative, able to work effectively under time pressure to meet deadlines and collaborate well with a dynamic team.
