The Apprentice Project (TAP) is a for-impact organization determined to transform Government / low income schools by offering holistic development of all children. TAP uses choice-based learning (Visual arts, Performing arts, and STEM) to build leadership skills to enable children to be Leaders of Today and Tomorrow. The TAP core team (Co-founders and Leadership) comprises alumni from Harvard University, the Indian Institute of Management, and Teach For India.

The TAP Leadership team believes that all children irrespective of their background should get the skills and resources to realize who they are and achieve what they want to do. TAP is supported by Harvard University, IIM Bangalore, Nudge Foundation, Capgemini, Schlumberger, and others. In 2020-21 TAP, directly and indirectly, impacted 12000+ children across India through the online model.

Role Summary:

TAP’s vision is to impact 1 million children by 2027. TAP is looking for a Sr. HR Manager who can onboard the right talent while supporting existing teams to make this vision a reality. The Sr. Manager would be part of TAP’s core group, lead 2 HR Team Leads and work closely with the Senior Leadership team. The Sr.Manager will streamline HR policies, systems and ensure a healthy, vibrant work culture. TAP is looking for a creative and strategic individual, who can help the organization achieve its people strategy – i.e., to “recruit, excite, and sustain” the best talent and make TAP “the best place to work” in the sector.

The Sr.Manager will establish and streamline the full gamut of systems and processes as part of setting up TAP’s people strategy, including –

● HR policies (office policies, diversity, rewards, admin processes, etc.)

● Recruitment (hiring process, compensation)

● Performance evaluation (appraisals, feedback mechanism)

● Professional development (training, mentoring, career advancement)

● Work culture (work environment, TAP values)

Key Job Area

1. Organizational Development

● Support managers and teams in business delivery through enhancing their capability to, manage their people, implement change and build relations with key stakeholders (internal and external)

● Lead and drive the people, culture, and engagement plan for the organization.

● Focussing on designing and implementing the performance management system of the organization.

● Building processes within the people ops & talent acquisition teams and introduction of tools for easy management of pipeline and processes.

● Set up and maintain robust representation and escalation systems from ground to the Board.

● Work in cross-functional projects with varied organizational dependencies.

● Have a strategic outlook towards talent acquisition, people development, career pathways and its alignment with the organization.

● Work closely with TAP leadership and employees to build work relationships, creating a culture of trust, respect and transparency between the management and employees.

● Ensure adequate and updated HR policies, including regular internal communications.

● Play the role of Manager in case of unplanned/untimely exit of a Manager across roles within the organization.

2. Talent Acquisition:

● Determine HR needs; lead recruitment and onboarding efforts to attract the best talent.

● Assisting talent acquisition with identifying and hiring top talent. Personally overlooking all senior level/leadership hiring.

● Building processes to ensure smooth onboarding, training and exit of team members.

● Design, develop and implement recruitment strategies, including process flow and procedures.

● Assess people required for successful implementation of the strategic plan.

● Liaison with external partners to bring in the right resources.

● Working on overall recruitment branding and culture branding of the organization.

3. Talent Retention:

● Design and lead a comprehensive performance evaluation process to assess employees on technical acumen, attributes, and alignment with TAP values.

● Design and lead a strong professional development mechanism – to meet training needs, mentor staff, and ensure appropriate career development tracks.

● Plan initiatives to improve employee engagement and build a sense of connectedness among employees.

● Design and execute Change Management systems to support organization through its fast paced scaling goals.

● Set up and maintain robust representation and escalation systems from ground to the Board.

● Drive the planning and budgeting for the vertical every quarter.

● Proactively resolve operational inefficiencies and manage conflict resolution.

4. Program and Policy of the Organization

● Documenting the culture of the organization and the diversity we bring as a team for future recruits.

● Working closely with the team leads and founders to ensure goal setting and compensation planning.

● Building regular programs to ensure learning and development of team members along with focussed programs for specialists.

● Succession planning for mid to senior positions and creating processes for documentation and handovers.

● Ensuring policies are implemented smoothly and tweaking/ building new policies to meet the team’s needs and expectations.

● Provide feedback on managerial decision making as a core part of the team

● Maintains knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in employment law, human resources, and talent management.

● Researches, develops, and implements competitive compensation, benefits, performance appraisal, and employee incentive programs.

● Collaborates with executive leadership to define the organization’s long-term mission and goals; identifies ways to support this mission through talent management.

● Identifies key performance indicators for the organizations human resource and talent management.

Learning and Development

● Creating a culture of high performance by supporting those who are unable to meet goals and studying patterns of those exceeding expectations.

● Recognizing high performers in the organization.

● Manage and expand client relationships.

● Ensure optimal bandwidth for efficient delivery of org’s programs throughout the year.

● Setup and engage alumni networks for the organization.

● Manage large distributed teams of Strategists, Fellows and Volunteers, spread across the footprint.

● Proactively resolve operational inefficiencies and manage conflict resolution.

● Work in cross-functional teams on core organizational projects which involve collaboration across verticals.

● Lead employee relations and safety and wellness programs.

6. People Management Operations:

● Support in benefits management and payroll administration including system management, data record-keeping, and contract management for staff, independent contractors, and volunteers.

● Ensure compliance to applicable Labor Laws and policy administration.

● Ensure documentation related to all core functions, including correspondence and letters, staff files and related documentation are in place.

7. Special Project:

Sr. Project Lead for Financial Literacy Project, in partnership with BNP Paribas:

BNP Paribas is the largest French banking group and the largest bank in the Eurozone. It became one of the five largest banks in the world following the 2008 financial crisis. BNP Paribas has been in India since 1860 and is among the leading international financial institutions providing a wide range of financial services covering corporate & institutional banking, and personal investment services for individuals.

The goal of the partnership project is to teach Financial literacy to 2000 children and engage 1000 BNP employees for volunteering. The project will be designed in collaboration with the senior management of BNP Paribas. The Project Lead will work directly with BNP management and receive support from the BNP team.

1.Program/Product Development

● Lead development of the project in alignment with the Directors by understanding key goals of the project.

● Collaborate with the Operations and Partnership Manager to ensure smooth execution and growth of the project.

2.Stakeholder Management

● Work closely with BNP employees, Financial literacy staff team and external organizations including RBI and SEBI for project outcomes .

● Lead HR team lead to Engage 1000 BNP employees along with TAP staff team for volunteering opportunities across TAP.

3.Operations:

● Liaison with the BNP directors to ensure BNP employees are volunteering and students are attending.

● Participate in regular observations and share feedback with the program team.

● Manage a team of full-time staff members, interns, and 1000+ volunteers who will support TAP in partnerships, operations, and product development.

Qualifications & Experience

● 8+ years of experience in HR practices only

● Experience of working on projects gained working within a professional services firm, global consultancy firm and/or large private and/or public sector organizations.

● A track record of strong coaching, conflict management and influence up, down, and across the organization.

● Experience in managing small to medium teams within a complex environment.

● A strong background with HR Business Partner accountabilities required, including change management, consulting agility, and organization design.

● Experience of building and leading an engaged team.

● Bachelor’s / Post Graduation Diploma / Master’s Degree in Business, Economics, Human Resource Management, or other relevant field.
