**About the Team:**

 

This role is within the India team of the Regions & Mayoral Engagement department. The team manages climate action delivery for C40 cities in India, implementing Climate Action Plans, regional business plans, leadership standards, and objectives agreed with various donors.  The team works collaboratively across C40 departments (transport, finance, inclusive climate action, air quality, business engagement, etc.).

 

**Position Summary:**

 

The Senior Manager, Inclusive Climate Action will lead the development and delivery of environmental justice aspects of C40 projects and programs in India and South & West Asia.  The primary initial focus will be a Zero Emission Freight program aiming to advance freight decarbonization policy and establish an electric freight highway between two Indian cities by 2030.  This role requires collaboration with city officials, businesses, citizen groups, organized labor, and other organizations.

 

**Responsibilities:**

 

* Serve as the technical and policy lead on inclusive climate action, ensuring environmental justice is integral to project delivery (research, policy development, implementation, evaluation).

* Manage and deliver the Zero Emission Freight Partnership in India, adhering to timelines and budget.

* Provide technical, strategic, and policy assistance related to inclusive climate action (ICA) activities.

* Integrate ICA tools, concepts, best practices, and lessons learned into relevant projects.

* Support key city activities (stakeholder mapping, engagement strategies, benefits assessments) with an ICA perspective.

* Conduct desk reviews to identify opportunities to enhance the inclusivity of programs.

* Build links across projects to foster cross-learning and equitable approaches.

* Develop a network of stakeholders/partners in equitable and inclusive climate action.

* Leverage global ICA partnerships to support regional outcomes.

* Ensure C40’s ICA strategy is integrated into programs and that lessons learned inform the strategy.

* Support the development of a joint narrative and communications to highlight ICA delivery.

* Support the development of monitoring and evaluation structures.

* Participate in and support the delivery of technical and policy assistance and advocacy efforts.

 

**Qualifications:**

 

* Deep passion for addressing climate change practically.

* Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a collaborative environment.

* Experience in government, business, research, or NGOs, focusing on inclusive climate action, just transition, climate equity, or climate justice (preferably with experience in transport, freight, or urban mobility).

* Track record of working effectively with city governments.

* Project and partner coordination experience in challenging environments.

* Ability to communicate complex policy simply.

* Experience in managing multi-stakeholder processes.

* Working knowledge of cities and urban issues.

* Collaborative working style and experience working across teams.

* Excellent multitasking, organizational, and time-management skills.

* Passion for environmental and climate issues; knowledge of global climate action is advantageous.

* Experience in peer reviews and report writing.

* Ability to communicate complex content compellingly.

* Demonstrated convening and facilitation skills.

* Fluent in English (spoken and written).

* Right to work in India.

* Willingness to travel moderately.

 

 

**Reporting to:** Head of Mobility, India

 

**Term:** Fixed Term until 30th June 2026

 

**Compensation:** (Grade 3) INR 2,411,579 (gross per annum)

 

**Minimum Experience:** Senior Manager/Supervisor level experience.
