We are SAWF IN, South Asia Women Foundation India, a national women’s fund of India. Women’s Fund are an important institutional mechanism to reach out to the most excluded groups and initiatives advancing women’s rights and leaderships and ensuring they receive engaged support.

SAWF IN, as the India national Women’s Fund, understands that strengthening feminist rights movements and supporting initiatives led by women and trans* people are critical towards achieving gender equality. Our role is to ensure that resources are available and are reaching the most dispossessed women’s collectives, for the priorities they identify, and the claims they make. By doing this we ensure that local and global philanthropy engages on gender rights and justice work from a feminist lens. We work with a special mandate to engage and promote rights-based work of these marginalised groups and organisations who need the additional resource to build and strengthen their institution.

We invite gender rights champions keen to support movement building work, to be part of our collective. We are looking for a programme catalyst with extensive experience and skills in nurturing partnerships, building enduring relationships with diverse stakeholders, especially, grassroots-based women led organisations and enriching programme design and development processes. We are looking for a facilitative and mature programme leader who can decipher un-spelt as well as explicit needs of grass roots groups and work towards meeting these needs.  More specifically we are looking for someone who can:   

1. Support in identifying potential partnerships with organisations led by women and trans persons, working on a) advancing women’s access to justice and b) livelihoods and economic empowerment.

2. Builds an intersectional programme of work that straddles access to justice and economic empowerment of women and trans* people from vulnerable communities.

3. Supports identification of areas for facilitating capacity building and skill enhancement of partner organisations

4. Maintain financial oversight of programme budgets, progress reports of partners

5. Works closely with documentation and communications experts to ensure successful strategies and stories of change are made visible

6. Contributes to thought leadership in developing robust, evidence-based initiatives that build the case for supporting feminist movement building work     

7. Strengthens the eco system of feminist philanthropy by identifying and contributing towards building networks of complementary stakeholders

8. Ensure there is a vibrant feedback loop in terms of needs emerging from the ground that require resource support.

9. Coordinates with resource mobilisation efforts in terms of exploring potential donors and raising funds for partners engaged in movement building work.

9. Enrich SAWF IN’s network of stakeholders through convenings and strategic consultations.

Qualification and experience:

  • Strong expertise in developing/ designing gender transformative programmes and initiatives
  • Brings at least 12 to 15 years of experience of designing and working on women’s rights and social justice issues in India. 
  • Has extensive knowledge of movement building work and grassroot groups working on changing social norms  
  • Has team leadership experience and is capable of inspiring colleagues and team members
  • Is a good listener and has strong people skills needed to build partnerships with diverse
  • Can speak fluently in English, Hindi, and at least one or more regional language
  • Can document well and has the experience of developing case studies and stories of change.
  • Is self-motivated and can work independently
  • Has the necessary infrastructural/operations support (access to laptop, internet connection, phone accessibility) to undertake the desired work remotely (work from home)
  • Is willing to undertake frequent travel within India, to remote urban and rural settings
  • Holds a Masters degree in social sciences, gender studies or an allied field
  • Remuneration will be commensurate with skills and qualifications.
