**Job Description: Senior Project Manager – AMP Himalaya**
**Position Title:** Senior Project Manager – AMP Himalaya
**Job Location:** Gangtok, Sikkim
**About the Company:**
ATREE (Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment) is a non-profit organization dedicated to generating rigorous interdisciplinary knowledge for environmental conservation and sustainable development. In the Himalayan region, ATREE focuses on conserving biodiversity, restoring landscapes, and enhancing human well-being through its 10-year strategy, The Himalaya Initiative (THI).
The AMP-Himalaya project, funded by donors, aims to conserve biodiversity, restore multi-functional landscapes, and promote nature-based rural livelihoods and climate change resilience over five years. It operates in three landscapes across India’s IHR: the Khangchendzonga Landscape, Trans-Himalayan Landscape, and Arunachal Pradesh.
**Experience Required:**
– Advanced degree (Master’s) in environmental science, social sciences, or project management.
– 12-15 years of experience in development sector projects, with at least 6-8 years in project implementation.
– Experience working in mountainous regions is preferred.
– Strong networking and stakeholder engagement skills.
– Understanding of NGO operations, budget management, and fundraising practices (FCRA/CSR).
– Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex projects.
**Key Responsibilities:**
1. **Leadership & Project Management:**
– Lead project design, planning, and implementation across thematic areas.
– Manage project timelines, budgets, and compliance with donor guidelines.
– Facilitate decision-making and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
2. **Operational Oversight:**
– Ensure project activities align with goals and outcomes.
– Monitor progress and address challenges in collaboration with field teams.
3. **Monitoring & Reporting:**
– Develop and maintain project MIS, ensuring timely reporting to donors.
– Conduct regular monitoring of deliverables and adjust strategies as needed.
4. **Stakeholder Engagement:**
– Represent ATREE with government officials, community leaders, and partners.
– Gather feedback to enhance project delivery.
5. **Documentation & Learning:**
– Document implementation processes and share best practices.
– Facilitate capacity building and knowledge sharing within the organization.
6. **Team Management:**
– Supervise and motivate project teams, ensuring alignment with objectives.
– Provide technical support and foster collaboration across ATREE units.
**Competencies:**
– Project management expertise, including financial oversight and M&E.
– Strong networking and stakeholder management skills.
– Excellent communication and report writing abilities.
– Results orientation and strategic thinking.
– Ability to lead diverse teams and provide constructive feedback.
**Duration of Engagement:** 3 years initially, extendable by another 2 years.
