Job Opportunity for Senior Scientist – Elephant Programme at Wildlife Conservation Society in Bengaluru

The Position

India is home to the largest global population of the Asian Elephant. Since more than 60% of their range occurs outside Protected Areas, there are serious issues related to negative interactions between people and elephants. WCS-India has a history of conducting valuable and integrated elephant research and conservation implementation. Given that many of our projects occur in elephant landscapes, we are looking for a researcher who can start an elephant-specific programme that also has a strong human dimension component. The work would be focussed on the Western Ghats landscape. The post will involve field and office work, based in Bangalore. 

Eligibility:

  • Experience in working with communities for resolving negative interactions between humans and elephants.
  • Analytical skills to analyse patterns of human Elephant interactions.
  • A publication record of peer-reviewed scientific work
  • Skills to engage with a diverse set of stakeholders for conflict mitigation.
  • Social science skills or collaborations to better understand the human dimension of human Elephant relationships in India.

Education:

  • PhD preferred
  • Experience in Human Elephant relationship studies
