**Job Overview**

 

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development and execution of the long-term engineering strategy for Wikimedia Enterprise. This is a remote position.

 

**Responsibilities**

 

* Develop and implement the engineering strategy for Wikimedia Enterprise in collaboration with the product team.

* Maintain and improve the reliability of high-volume commercial data feeds for Wikipedia content.

* Support new code and feature deployments.

* Troubleshoot, debug, and follow-up on emerging issues in the application stack and surrounding infrastructure.

* Assist in the architectural design of new services and scale them for optimal performance.

* Respond to incidents, diagnose system outages, and follow-up on production infrastructure alerts.

* Advocate for Wikimedia Foundation values and ensure all work is aligned with them.

* Monitor system performance and make data-driven decisions.

* Write and maintain comprehensive documentation.

* Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices to continuously improve technology.

* Identify and implement automation opportunities to increase efficiency.

 

**Qualifications**

 

* Extensive experience supporting complex web applications running on cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services.

* Experience working with Kafka or similar distributed event processing systems.

* Strong proficiency with Nodejs and Go applications.

* Familiarity with configuration management and orchestration tools (ECS, Kubernetes), and modern observability infrastructure (monitoring, metrics, and logging).

* Aptitude for automating tasks and streamlining workflows.

* Comfortable with shell and scripting languages used in an SRE/Operations engineering context (e.g. Python, Go, Bash, Ruby, etc.).

* Deep understanding of Linux/Unix fundamentals and strong debugging skills.

* Excellent English communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a globally distributed team.

* B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.

 

**Bonus Points**

 

* Track record of open source contributions.

* Experience with non-cloud hosted infrastructure.

* Remote work experience with a highly distributed team.

* Fluency in languages other than English.

 

**Location**

**Compensation**

 

Salaries are set competitively and equitably, aligned with our values and culture. The anticipated annual pay range for U.S.-based applicants is US$109,047 to US$169,455. For applicants located outside of the US, the pay range will be adjusted to the country of hire. We do not consider salary history during the hiring process. Compensation for a successful applicant will be based on their skills, experience, and location.
