Job Title: Senior User Researcher, Bolbhav Project
Location: Remote with extensive fieldwork
Remuneration: INR 20-24 LPA
Duration: Full-time
Last date to apply: 15/10/2023
Start Date: Immediate
Job Overview:
Gramhal is a tech non-profit on a mission to end information asymmetry and improve the livelihoods of 50 million rural households in India by 2030. Bolbhav is our flagship product, where we collect and disseminate real-time mandi price information. We ran the model in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh and have received positive results. Now, we want to replicate this model to mandis across MP. We are seeking an experienced User Researcher to help us delve into our farmers’ behaviours, understand their information needs, and grasp the intricacies of agricultural markets. This role demands developing deep insight into farmers’ decision-making processes and examining how the presence or absence of information influences their choices. The work will be structured in 2-3 weeks sprints focused on predefined research questions, employing predominantly qualitative research methods.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop a persona of farmers who opt for paid subscriptions to understand their motivations for paying for information and determine the optimal subscription price point.
- Create a profile of data contributors, identifying their motivations and determining the optimal monetary incentives.
- Identify farmers’ information needs to uncover potential information use cases that farmers would value enough to pay for and can be crowdsourced.
- Build a persona of markets and crops to guide the team in developing the best expansion strategy.
- Collaborate closely with the product, operations, and marketing teams to align on research priorities, ensuring a holistic understanding of the user journey.
- Synthesize research data into actionable insights to inform product enhancements and strategic shifts.
Requirements
- A deep understanding of the Indian agricultural sector, especially mandis. Those lacking this experience must commit to spending their initial month on-site in a mandi.
- A proven track record in user research, particularly in environments requiring an intricate understanding of human behaviour and decision-making.
- An educational background in Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology, Economics, or Statistics is beneficial. However, the ideal candidate will possess a multi-disciplinary mindset and a keenness to learn and apply best practices across various fields.
- Outstanding analytical skills, with proficiency in discerning patterns and insights from qualitative data. A prior experience with intermediate-level data analysis is a distinct advantage, given the role’s occasional quantitative components.
- This role requires spending approximately 40% of the time in the field. Kindly refrain from applying if you’re not willing to commit to fieldwork.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of connecting with and empathizing with users from diverse backgrounds.
- An entrepreneurial mindset, ready to lead research initiatives from conceptualization to implementation.
- Proficiency in both Hindi and English.
Benefits
