## Job Description: Social Mobilizer – Girls’ Education Program (GEP)

**Job Location:** India – Maharashtra
**Experience Required:**
* Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in the education or development sector, including internships.
**Job Summary:**
The Girls’ Education Program (GEP) is currently operating in 6 States across India, including Maharashtra. This program seeks to increase girls’ years of schooling and enhance their self-awareness, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. As a Social Mobilizer, you will play a crucial role in implementing the GEP at the field level. You will be the first point of contact for the girls, schools, and parents, ensuring the program’s success.
**Responsibilities:**
**Program Planning and Implementation:**
* Develop a comprehensive understanding of Room to Read’s GEP design, objectives, and outcomes.
* Implement program activities according to the design, maintaining fidelity.
* Participate in program planning in consultation with Program Associates and other state-level staff.
* Attend mandatory training sessions for Social Mobilizers.
**Family and Community Engagement:**
* Have a deep understanding of social issues, safety concerns, and child protection issues affecting girl participants.
* Be well-versed in existing social safety net mechanisms, schemes, and referral systems.
* Organize and lead family and community meetings and consultations with school staff, parents, and community members/organizations.
* Seek networking opportunities at the local level to create a resource pool for referrals.
**Working with Girls:**
* Conduct life skills sessions for 90 girls in batches of 20-30 according to the prescribed session content and agreed plan.
* Form Life Skills Clubs/Children Groups and facilitate regular meetings and discussions.
* Distribute the newsletter “GUPSHUP” and initiate discussions and follow-up activities.
* Help girls develop wall magazines and write for state-level Gupshup to amplify their voices.
**Mentoring:**
* Conduct group and individual mentoring sessions based on prescribed content guidelines.
* Identify challenges faced by girls and develop tailored sessions to address them.
**Setting up Life Skills Centers / Gender Resource Centers:**
* Establish and ensure the proper functioning of a Gender Resource Centre (GRC) for life skills sessions in schools/communities.
* Maintain a welcoming and safe environment for girls in the GRC.
**Home Visits:**
* Utilize risk and response protocols to map data and conduct targeted home visits.
* Track each girl’s progress, understand risks, flag concerns, and suggest solutions.
* Provide effective mentoring and outreach to families.
**Record Keeping, Reporting, and Monitoring:**
* Update records of attendance, parent meetings, and program data regularly.
* Prepare and submit weekly plans during reviews.
* Analyze data related to attendance, dropouts, and socio-economic profiles of the girls.
* Conduct periodic cohort risk assessments and identify case studies and best practices.
**Qualifications & Experience:**
* Bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences, or equivalent.
* Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in the education or development sector.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, Hindi, and Marathi.
* Strong planning and project implementation skills.
* Ability to work in remote areas and travel to communities.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
* Master’s degree in education or social sciences.
* Counseling diploma and/or experience in mentoring/counseling.
* Experience working on life skills, gender, and adolescents.
* Strong interpersonal skills and a team player.
