British International Investment (BII) is the UK’s development finance institution.  With over 70 years of experience, BII invests in private sector growth and innovation across Africa, Asia, the Indo-Pacific, and the Caribbean, aiming to solve global development challenges.  BII has a significant portfolio in financial services, exceeding $2 billion invested in over 150 investees.  Currently, BII is expanding its technical assistance activities to enhance the impact of its investments and promote positive changes within financial service providers, particularly focusing on underserved groups, green sectors, and high-impact SMEs.  In partnership with the Gates Foundation, BII is launching a dedicated facility to increase financial inclusion in South Asia.

 

**Job Summary:**

 

The South Asia Inclusion Facility Lead will be responsible for the implementation and management of a portfolio of gender and inclusion advisory projects within the financial services sector across South Asia (India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan). This role will directly support BII’s and the Gates Foundation’s gender and inclusion goals in the region.  The position is full-time, based in Mumbai, India, with office space provided in BII’s and the Gates Foundation’s offices.  Travel within India and the South Asia region will be required.

 

**Responsibilities:**

 

* **Stakeholder Management & Pipeline Development:** Collaborate with BII investment teams, the Gates Foundation, and financial institutions to identify and develop technical assistance opportunities for financial service providers.

* **Project Design:**  Lead the technical assistance origination process, including needs identification, concept development, and preparation of concept notes, applications, and terms of reference.

* **Project Management & Delivery:** Manage consultants, oversee quality assurance of deliverables, coordinate with the FSG Plus Project Coordinator on procurement and contracting, monitor project progress, and mitigate risks.

* **Learning, Events & External Engagement:** Manage a learning and communications workstream, producing case studies and research materials. Present project findings at internal and external events.

 

 

**Experience Required:**

 

* Proven experience working with financial institutions in South Asia, driving internal change, supporting new product development, and market entry.  A strong network of contacts within the South Asian financial sector is highly desirable.

* Experience delivering or overseeing technical assistance in areas such as gender product development, product bundling, customer value proposition development, gender market research, MIS data harvesting, or diversity in sales and marketing techniques.

* Deep understanding of issues and opportunities for financial institutions related to gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, youth engagement, and social and financial inclusion.  Strong knowledge of GESI trends and global awareness of GESI integrations is essential.

* Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, collaborate across teams and organizations, and engage stakeholders at all levels.

* Experience in designing and implementing technical assistance/advisory projects with financial institutions.

* Familiarity with the work of development finance institutions (like BII) and philanthropic organizations (like the Gates Foundation) in South Asia.

* Excellent project management skills, including the ability to proactively identify and resolve issues.

* Strong team-working skills and ability to collaborate effectively with clients, consultants, investment teams, and financial institutions.

* Experience in developing and disseminating knowledge-sharing materials.

* Willingness to travel periodically within South Asia.
