Roles and responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of assessments and observations to determine the areas in which the student may need extra or modified educational services. Assessment areas may include different developmental domains.
- Identify students need and develop related educational goals and teaching plans
- Develop an integrated plan of education for each child by collaborating with classroom teachers, parents, counselors, social workers and other school team members
- Communicate with other staff and family members about each student’s progress and struggles
- Prepare detailed lesson plans at least three months in advance and submit them to administrators for approval
- Participate in IEP (individual education plan) meetings as scheduled by the school
- Use individualized reinforcement techniques to keep each SEN student on the path toward progress
- Conduct group or individual remediation sessions as necessary
- Create and distribute progress reports quarterly
- Confer with on-site or outside therapist over disciplinary and behavioral issues with students
- Create a safe, productive classroom environment
Skills and Qualifications Required: - Deep belief and commitment towards Akanksha’s vision and mission
- Diploma or Bachelors in Special Education or a recognized certification or degree in SEN
- SEN teaching experience of at least 2 years
- Confidence, knowledge and experience working with children with specific learning disabilities and children from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities
- Fluency and accuracy in written and spoken English
- Computer skills at a level that permits the creative and effective use of technology in and outside the classroom
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team
- Should be someone who is strategic, creative, energetic and resilient and can manage stakeholder relationships
- Work experience in an NGO within the last 3 years (preferred)
