What are we solving for in the End Ultra Poverty program?

End Ultra Poverty (EUP) program is solving for households in ultra-poverty through a targeted, multi-faceted and sequenced model called the Graduation Approach which has demonstrated that ultra-poverty can be conquered. 

At The/Nudge we have been piloting this program for the past 3 years and are in the process of catalyzing propagation of the same. Our purpose is to contribute to ending ultra-poverty in India. EUP will:

  • continue to implement on its own to iterate the design for impact at scale
  • enable more NGOs to adopt technical and capacity-building support
  • enable govt to adopt by providing research, design, and implementation support
  • continue to generate data on ultra-poverty and evidence on graduation approach to nudge governments to adopt at scale
  • build technology solutions for NGOs and governments to adopt and implement at scale & with quality.

About the role

As part of our partnership with the government on the EUP program, The/Nudge Institute has been given the mandate to design and build out a tech product to enable the implementation of the Graduation Approach; in conjunction with the National & State Rural Livelihood Missions (NRLM/ SRLMs). You will play a pivotal role in building this first-of-its-kind tech product intended for use in Graduation Approach programs across the country.

In this role, you will:

  • work with a vendor software development team to deliver timely (monthly & quarterly) releases of the tech product [with ~ 3 days per week spent in the vendor’s office in Noida]
  • plan & manage development and quality delivery of tech product functionality in 2-week sprint cycles
  • ensure adherence to software development and devops best practices including unit and end-to-end tests, code reviews and Continuous Integration/Delivery (CI/CD); in conjunction with the tech lead and product team
  • coordinate testing efforts with tech analysts in our state teams (within a sprint/ on an ongoing basis/ for field user tests) 
  • plan and manage rollouts of the tech product to new states in conjunction with product and operations teams
  • plan for and manage go-live and ongoing support for our users (field operation teams) across states
  • coordinate and work to ensure alignment between all stakeholders involved in rollout of the project, including mission management units at MoRD and technical agencies hired by the ministry

Apply if you:

  • have a strong motivation to contribute to poverty alleviation efforts in India
  • are willing to make periodic field visits to understand the program and the users for whom the tech product is being built
  • work with a high level of rigor – especially in ensuring the quality of delivered software & in
  • ensuring the team follows development best practices such as unit tests, code reviews, etc.
  • have 6-8 years of work experience in project management. 
  • have experience in development of medium to large-scale software applications or as a developer building mobile/web applications
  • have the ability to plan development by breaking down functionality into tasks and estimating time/ effort for the same
  • have the ability to work with developers to deliver output in short development cycles
  • have the ability to work in a fast paced, ambiguous startup environment (bias for action and curiosity to learn)
  • have experience working with software development vendors to deliver applications of high quality (Preferred)
