India faces the dual challenge of rapidly improving living standards—through sustained economic growth and expanded access to reliable and affordable energy—while simultaneously reducing pollution for a cleaner and healthier environment. EPIC India researchers work hand-in-hand with government and industry partners to identify innovative ideas, pilot them on the ground, and rigorously measure outcomes.

Position Description

EPIC India is seeking a full-time Research Assistant to work with leading practitioners in the energy and environment community, policy researchers affiliated with EPIC India and senior government officials involved in energy and environmental issues across India. The ideal candidate possesses a mix of economics, analytical, interpersonal & communications skills, and is passionate about working with cross-functional groups to drive large-scale impact in the energy and environment sector.

Reporting to: Research Manager / EPIC India Senior Management

Responsibilities

  • Designing survey questionnaires, conducting qualitative research, running pilot exercises, refining study design and survey instruments
  • Supervising and managing data collection and data entry to ensure good data quality during both these phases.
  • Overseeing the implementation of the evaluation in accordance with the research design in association with our partner organization
  • Ensuring that the project complies with EPIC India data collection and security protocols with the help of the Research Manager and Research Associates
  • Assisting with data cleaning and preliminary data analysis
  • Maintaining project documentation including conducting literature review
  • Any other task as assigned by line manager and EPIC India senior management
  • Providing technical support into EPIC India’s programs in the region and globally as required
  • Research and develop understanding of regional energy and environment markets
  • Supporting relationships with partner organizations at both headquarters and field level

Education and Work Experience:  

  • This is an entry-level position. Candidates with a Masters in economics, public policy, environmental policy or science or other related fields are encouraged to apply. For candidates with a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 1 year of full-time work experience is required.

Competencies

  • Knowledge and understanding of monitoring and evaluation frameworks
  • Knowledge of Stata (strongly preferred) and experience working with data analysis softwares preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients, both verbally and in writing
  • Exceptional research, written and oral communication skills, with high levels of attentiveness to diverse audience
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Willingness to accommodate colleagues in different time zones

Working Conditions

  • Travel mostly in India (depending on the project requirements)
  • Applicant must be legally authorized to work in India.
