Jhpiego is seeking highly motivated Program Officers based in various states for its USAID-funded RISE project to coordinate efforts in tackling the growing challenge of Zoonoses and AMR. The Program Officer (Animal Health) will play an essential role in supporting the implementation of the Health Security and AMR project, specifically in the area of animal health. The incumbent will assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of activities related to zoonotic disease prevention, animal health surveillance, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) control. The position will report to the Deputy Chief of Party/State Program Manager/Officer.
Responsibilities
- Zoonotic Disease Prevention and Animal Health:Assist in the development and implementation of strategies for preventing and controlling zoonotic diseases at the animal-human interface.
- Collaborate with stakeholders in the animal health sector to enhance disease surveillance, reporting, and response mechanisms.
- Support community-level engagement and awareness campaigns to mitigate zoonotic disease threats.
- AMR Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship:Contribute to the implementation of antimicrobial stewardship programs within the animal health sector.
- Assist in the development of interventions to promote responsible antimicrobial use in animal health settings.
- Facilitate capacity-building initiatives for veterinarians and animal health professionals on AMR prevention.
Collaboration and Coordination:
- Collaborate and coordinate with the national and state-level animal health divisions to ensure alignment and synergies with ongoing efforts.
- Facilitate intersectoral collaboration efforts among animal health, human health, wildlife, and other relevant sectors.
- Assist state program managers in the effective implementation of project activities, providing technical support and coordination.
Project Coordination and Implementation:
- Support the planning and execution of project activities, ensuring alignment with project goals and objectives.
- Assist in the organization of workshops, training sessions, and awareness campaigns related to animal health and AMR.
- Data Collection and Reporting:Contribute to the collection and analysis of data related to zoonotic diseases, animal health surveillance, and AMR.
- Prepare comprehensive reports detailing project achievements, challenges, and recommendations for further enhancement.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration:Collaborate with government agencies, veterinary institutions, and relevant stakeholders to foster partnerships.
- Support the establishment and maintenance of effective working relationships with key stakeholders.
- Documentation and Reporting:Assist in maintaining accurate documentation of project activities and outcomes, contributing to regular progress reporting.
Miscellaneous
- Any tasks assigned by the supervisor or the head of the department of the Center for One Health
Required Qualifications
- Graduate degree in veterinary sciences. MPH (Master of Public Health) is preferred.
- 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in animal health, zoonotic diseases, or public health.
- Solid understanding of animal health systems, zoonotic disease dynamics, and AMR.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated analytical skills for data collection and reporting.
- Proficiency in using technology for communication and data management.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in relevant computer software and data analysis tools.
- Familiarity with the Indian public health system, newer initiatives in the health sector, and relevant government policies/ strategies particularly the National Health Mission, and Ayushman Bharat.
- Ability and willingness to travel for workshops and coordination activities.
