Fellowship Opportunity – Fellow or Associate Fellow – Energy at CSEP in New Delhi

The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) is seeking to expand its team in the space of Energy Economics.  Specifically, we are looking at economists at the Fellow level (10+ years of experience) or Associate Fellow (5+ years of experience, which can be relaxed for exceptional candidates) with a deep interest in government policies associated with electricity and energy issues. They will be reporting to the Senior Fellow overseeing energy related studies at CSEP, and working closely with the larger energy team.

About CSEP: The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) conducts independent, in-depth, and policy-relevant research, and provides evidence-based recommendations to the challenges facing India and the world. It draws on the expertise of its researchers, extensive interactions with policy makers as well as convening power to enhance the impact of research. Our researchers work across the domains of Economic Growth and Development including Urbanisation; Energy, Natural Resources and Sustainability; and Foreign Policy and Security. All our research and policy recommendations are freely available to the public.

CSEP is based in New Delhi and registered as a company limited by shares and not for profit, under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 1956 (now Section 8 of Companies Act, 2013).

Key Requisites:

The research professional is expected to have a PhD in economics from a globally recognized institute.  A background in science or engineering would be preferred but is not essential. They would have demonstrated a highly productive publications record, with robust empirical and policy-oriented research.

Specific areas of expertise can include: econometrics, data analytics, and statistical analysis. Familiarity with gathering + cleaning up data, data platforms, and data programming (python and/or R) are helpful. Excellent writing skills, as is the ability to tease out insights from disparate, diverse, or unstructured data.

Responsibilities include:

The Fellow would be expected to work with other team members and conceptualize studies, conduct them, coordinate with other researchers or partner institutes in case of larger studies with multiple team-members, and enhance their publications record. The position would also involve engagement with a diverse set of stakeholders in the climate change and sustainability domain. They should be able to independently conduct and lead studies in areas including energy transition and associated finance and fiscal issues.
