Purpose
CEEW seeks to hire a Research Intern for its Risks & Adaptation (RAP) program to expand its work in the space of air pollution. The chosen candidate will support the RAP team to carry out extensive research, that shall include the qualitative kind for the most part, but quantitative skills may also be utilized as and when required. The shortlisted candidate will be expected to carry out literature review, data analysis, and would support the advancement of the research and policy engagement for air quality.
Job duties and accountabilities
Research
· To carry out literature review and summarize findings as reports to aid senior researchers on air pollution research.
· To collect data on municipal revenues and spending by reviewing relevant government documents, and conducting interviews/consultations with relevant stakeholders.
· To figure out PoCs for carrying out informational interviews as per the requirements of the project. To attend, along with senior researchers such interviews, and encapsulate the findings that may emerge.
· To render assistance in the drafting of research survey instrument(s), questionnaires, and sharpening the methodologies that may be deployed as part of our research projects.
· To engage and liaison with government officials of concerned departments for setting up meetings and stakeholder consultations. Work shall include stakeholder mapping exercises, too.
· To keep a tab on the latest research developments and policy developments in the state, India and worldwide, pertinent to air pollution
· To provide research content for the organisation’s web pages, blogs, issue briefs etc
· To help organize and attend relevant conferences, workshops, training programmes for a comprehensive understanding of the air quality management in India and globally
Programme assistance
· Assist with project implementation, including help with preparing presentations, factsheets and other communication material
· Support efforts to use new media platforms for wide dissemination of CEEW’s work and, in turn, closer engagement with the wider community
· Participate in weekly team meetings and assist with preparing minutes
· Accompany the other team members for meetings with other stakeholders; prepare minutes of the meetings and assist with following up.
Selection Criteria
Education and experience
· Enrolled in or completed Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in law, economics, political science, regulatory governance, urban planning, business administration, development management, public policy or environmental science
· 0-1 years of relevant research experience
· A fair understanding of environmental policy and governance in India and worldwide
Main skills
· Must have strong research skills – capability to carry out systematic literature review and familiarity with research methods including the ability to draft questionnaires, adapt and sharpen methodologies, create survey documents and analyse the findings that may emerge.
· Strong analytical skills including quantitative research skills
· Good written and oral communication skills; Good report writing skills
· Desirable but not mandatory: Experience in working with QGIS, R, Python or geospatial and other big datasets related to air quality.

· Willingness to learn new (research and project management) skills
· Ability to adapt to the new environment and deliver under tight deadlines in a professional environment
· Striving for rigour in research and quality in work output
· Ability to effectively work in a team while being able to independently drive research with minimum assistance, when time demands.
