The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) is expanding its Climate Change and Sustainability team. We are seeking a qualified and experienced economics and energy systems modeller to join us as an Associate Fellow. The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in computer science, environmental science/economics, energy engineering, geoscience, mathematics/physics, or a related field, and 5+ years post-qualification experience including some in integrated assessment modelling (IAM).

The candidate will be expected to participate in the construction of India specific model that is able to help analyse climate policy options for India.  He/She will also be expected to participate in the public discussion on the topic, co-author publishable output, and collaborate with teams within CSEP, nationally and globally.

About CSEP

CSEP is based in New Delhi and registered as a company limited by shares and not for profit, under Sec. 8 of the Companies Act, 1956 (now Sec. 8 of Companies Act, 2013). It conducts independent, policy-oriented research and provides evidence-based recommendations to the challenges facing India and the world, drawing on the expertise of its researchers and distinguished fellows, and interactions with policymakers. Our researchers work across the domains of Economic Growth and Development including Urbanisation; Energy, Natural Resources, Climate Change and Sustainability; and Foreign Policy and Security. All our research and policy recommendations are publicly accessible.

Key responsibilities:

  • Review global developments in the field of detail-process IAMs
  • Develop/customise and maintain an IAM on India
  • Analyse, interpret and communicate results and recommendations to stakeholders and policymakers to inform decisions related to climate change and development
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate economic, environmental, and technical considerations into the model
  • Manage workflow and conduct independent quality assurance reviews

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in computer science, environmental science/economics, energy engineering, geoscience, mathematics/physics, or similar
  • 5+ years’ research experience or a PhD in climate change (or related) domain, with demonstrated knowledge of economic and energy systems modelling/IAMs.
  • Excellent computer programming skills with knowledge of algebraic modelling languages (e.g. AMPL, GAMS)
  • Strong analytical abilities and communication skills
