ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY – AVP, DATA ANALYTICS (DATA & IMPACT)

Medha has been collecting data and tracking the impact of its work with youth since its very first batch in 2012.

With 85,000 students, 600 educational institutions, 4,000 employers, and more than 100 districts, that’s more than ten million data points over the last ten years (and hundreds added every minute!).

However, we have not done enough with this data. We haven’t used it fully to improve or start new programs, better predict outcomes, allocate and redistribute resources, come up with creative marketing campaigns, understand the nuance in our impact, or advocate with the government, peers, and funders.

To put data and impact at the center of everything we do, we have recently created a new Data & Impact Department and elevated it as a core function within the organization.

The AVP, Data Analytics, will develop and drive strategies that aim to improve our per-student impact by better utilizing data. With visualization, basic analytics, business intelligence, and predictive modeling, you will use all the tools at your disposal to achieve the organization’s ambitious goals.

You will lead a team of tinkerers, analysts, and scientists who dig deep into every morsel of data – quantitative and qualitative – to look for trends, causation, and learnings. Armed with these data-backed insights, you will initiate and accelerate program and operational improvements and spark ideas for innovation in collaboration with the Core Programs team.

You will have the opportunity to bring your ideas, experience, and vision to the platform we have created here at Medha.

What you will do:

• Lead and mentor a team of analysts

– Ensure a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and efficiency

– Set and achieve departmental goals and align them to organizational objectives

– Identify and support the learning and development needs of the team

• Develop, implement, and maintain leading-edge analytic systems

– Build tools and systems that efficiently turn raw data into insights

– Review and improve data models, systems, and dashboards to support strategic decisions

– Lead cross-functional projects that incorporate advanced data modeling techniques

• Collaborate with external stakeholders

– Design and lead data insight projects in association with third-party experts

– Disseminate findings from third-party data insight projects with all key stakeholders

What your day might look like:

While no two days are the same, some may look like this:

  • You meet with the Senior Leadership Team to share the findings from a recent predictive modeling exercise you did with one of the Big Three consulting firms.
  • You review the capacity-building plan your team created to train Area Managers on how to build and use data dashboards in Metabase.
  • You meet the Patna team to discuss trends they are seeing in the employment outcomes of ITI students, and brainstorm ways to analyze the data further.
  • You have a regular check-in with Cluster Heads to discuss student persona aspirations that show some changing preferences in the data model.
  • You meet the System Adoption team to share insights on internship trends of women polytechnic students for them to incorporate into their next meeting with the Principal Secretary.
  • You plan a visit to Agra with the team there to meet students and alumni.
  • You treat the office to cake and samosas because a new dashboard went live today!

Things we are looking for:

  • A demonstration of strategic thinking and logical reasoning
  • Working knowledge of predictive modeling and mapping data from multiple sources
  • A knack for seeing solutions in data sets and the mindset to convert insights into opportunities
  • Proficient with querying languages, data visualization tools, and big data tools like Tableau, Metabase, PowerBI, SQL, SAS, etc.
  • Ability to lead a team of data analyst.
  • And some prior experience…

We believe in diversity of thought and experiences and are open to candidates with varied backgrounds. If you believe the skills you have built from the experiences you have had in the past can be applied to this work, please communicate how and why in your application.

Why should you work for Medha?

  • A passionate team that is committed to a shared mission.
  • Grassroots ethos connected to its student community (no ivory towers here).
  • Audacious goals and vision to impact millions of young people and India’s growth story.
  • New initiatives and exciting projects to get involved in and learn from.
  • An informal and fun work environment that doesn’t compromise on performance.
  • Space to explore and find your own solutions and path (no micromanaging).

Whom will you work with?

These are some people you will closely be working with as members of Data & Impact as well as the Leadership team.

The descriptions just indicate the team member’s ‘superpower’, not their designation 🙂

  • Data manager and insight gatherer extraordinaire: Mariam Raza
  • Taskmaster, field expert, and champion of change management: Swati Goyal
  • Impact investigator, survey whiz, and painter of ‘big pictures’: Komal Sharma
  • Dot connector, ecosystem builder, natural leader: Shubhra Gupta
