**Job Summary:**

The Associate Machine Learning (ML) Scientist will contribute to the development and deployment of scientifically rigorous and robust AI solutions designed to benefit underserved populations worldwide.  This role involves working under the guidance of senior ML scientists to translate social sector problems into well-defined AI challenges, developing and implementing algorithms and solutions, ensuring successful scaled deployment, and defining effective evaluation metrics.

**Roles and Responsibilities:**

* Build robust machine learning solutions for socially impactful problems.

* Translate social sector problems into well-defined AI problems.

* Develop and execute algorithms and solutions.

* Ensure successful and scaled deployment of AI solutions.

* Define appropriate metrics to evaluate solution effectiveness.

* Understand user challenges and context.

* Curate and transform data.

* Train and validate models.

* Run simulations and derive insights from data.

* Collaborate within cross-functional teams (ML modeling, engineering, solution, and domain experts).

* Interface with social sector organizations as needed.

**Requirements:**

* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.

* Demonstrated skills in coding, data mining and analysis, and building and implementing ML or statistical models.

* Ability to learn and adapt to the demands of real-life, scaled deployments.

* Excellent communication skills.

* Willingness to tackle the challenges of applied work for social good.

* Project experience in applied machine learning.

**Desired Qualifications:**

* Solid software engineering skills in Python, C++, or Java.

* Interest in applying software engineering practices to ML projects.

* Track record of project work in applied machine learning. Experience applying AI models to real-world problems is a plus.

* Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

* 1+ years of experience with audio and speech technologies (audio signal processing, automatic speech recognition, speaker identification, and verification).

* Proficiency in HF Transformers and PyTorch.

* Experience deploying a machine learning service at scale.
