Project Description

The purpose of the USAID India Plastics Pollution Activity is to further advance public and private sector capacity to improve solid waste management, identity innovations in plastic recycling, and reduce demand for single-use plastic, all with the end goal of reducing ocean plastic production.

Position Description

RTI is seeking a Communications Manager for the anticipated USAID India Plastics Pollution Activity. The Communications Managerwill be responsible for establishing a vigorous communications strategy to raise public awareness, build demand for local innovations, increase awareness, and increase motivation within communities, local governments, and the private sector to achieve sustained reductions in ocean plastics pollution.

The Communications Manager will be based in New Delhi, India, and will report to the Activity Chief of Party.

Position is contingent upon award and funding.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Conduct an aggressive media outreach campaign to raise awareness of the Activity.
  • Work with the Activity team to craft news releases for radio, television, and electronic media.
  • Organize periodic meetings, workshops, seminars, and other in-person and virtual events.
  • Prepare case studies and other Activity-related documentation.
  • Co-design and periodically update the Activity’s Website.
  • Work with technical team to write success stories, lessons learned, and Activity reports.
  • Ensure USAID and project branding guidelines are adhered to.
  • Develop other communication tools (blogs, newsletters, pamphlets, project briefs) as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 8 years of experience or a Master’s degree plus 6 years of experience in the media or communications industry.
  • A degree in journalism, public administration, international affairs or a closely related field.
  • Five years of experience designing and successfully implementing communication strategies and media outreach events.
  • Experience with USAID or other major donors preferred.
  • Excellent coordination and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure with multiple concurrent demands and deliverables.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Experience working in India is strongly preferred.
