The Udaiti Foundation is a Delhi-based not-for-profit foundation aimed at accelerating Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) in India.  Our vision is for a world where all women and girls have expanded choice and attain their full economic potential.  Udaiti aims to act as a strategic influencer and force multiplier in the field, bringing together the non-profit with the public and private sectors. We believe that – the private sector can have an outsized impact; digital technology is a gamechanger; data-informed insights are criticall; there is no scale like the government.. We incubate solutions that can be scaled with public and private sectors and communities. Udaiti has been incubated by The Convergence Foundation, and counts Ashoka University, ACT Grants, AIP, CSF, CEGIS, CRISP, and CEDA as its cohort of foundations aiming at collective impact. The Convergence Foundation was set up by Ashish Dhawan to identify critical voids in the social sector and build strong, long-lasting organisations to solve complex problems.

Udaiti’s mission is to drive change leveraging – data, applied research & insights;  technical advisory support; solution generation; and co-creating strategic platforms for field-building. 

Udaiti is looking at contributing to India’s WEE ecosystem through efforts that reflect these beliefs and catalyze transformative change through strategic public & private partnerships for advocacy, applied research, and programs.

The Udaiti Foundation’s Data for Insights, Innovation & Impact (Di3) Hub looks to catalyse the WEE data ecosystem toward better quality, use, and impact.  The Hub’s Goals are to

  • Generate fresh insights on WEE through secondary & big data initiatives.
  • Test program design & solutions to foster innovative gender transformative solutions.
  • Create impact through cost-effective decision-support tools and mechanisms incl. monitoring systems & dashboards.
  • Fill evidence & data gaps through cost-effective and targeted primary surveys.
  • We have several exciting partnerships and initiatives in progress across analyzing employment and labor markets data, flagship WEE Pulse surveys, and data dashboards and nudges to influence key decisions across the public & private sector.

Position Summary

We are looking for an exceptional candidate to anchor the WEE-Data for Insights, Innovation & Impact (Di3) Hub, and shape/ quality assure the organization’s more programmatic data and evidence needs.  This position will report to the President, Strategy, Data & Research, working on/ co-creating several initiatives in the Data and Insights pillar.  Additional responsibilities will include supporting the private and public sector initiatives developing/ quality-assuring data & evidence efforts nested within the programs.

The ideal candidate will be highly skilled in statistics & big data and be able to lead/ guide a team of analysts, while also being able to stretch themselves into co-creating the vision for the hub. They should have had the experience of hands-on work with multiple kinds of public, private, and metadata across economic, social and business indicators.  They should be experienced in using evaluative methodologies – esp. low cost and real time insights, and smart evaluative designs. They should have strong qualitative and quantitative research skills and techniques, and be able to communicate research findings and outputs effectively to a range of audiences. They should also have had experience in leading teams and working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with senior team members to assist in the broader data and applied research & program planning and goals of the Udaiti Foundation
  • Lead the Data and Insights team in setting up and achieving goals, along with monitoring the progress towards them
  • Build capacity/ be able to guide of the team as needed
  • Co-develop and manage a pipeline of flagship data initiatives and work w/ the the team to tee up a series of influential outputs
  • Contribute to determining the areas of solution testing and operationalize plans
  • Research and research objectives for the short-term research projectsIdentify, leverage, access/ acquire/ collect and analyse relevant data through datasets to support Udaiti’s initiatives, understand the barriers to women in the workforce and optimise the design of interventions
  • Prepare and maintain data for analysis, and analysing patterns from data to draw inferences and conclusions
  • Design and develop survey design, questionnaires, polls, etc. that meet the research requirements
  • Test research methodologies to confirm the intended purpose of the research
  • Undertake primary and secondary research, including fieldwork, interviews, and experiments, with respect to ongoing projects
  • Actively contribute to developing research opportunities
  • Take on diverse operational tasks to ensure organisational success
  • Nurture relationships, networks so the Di3 Hub

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

  • Undergraduate and master’s degrees in Statistics, Economics, Public Policy, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 10+ years of work experience in a challenging/ high growth environment
  • Knowledge and experience of working with large labour datasets, and scraping, mapping, and analysing it
  • Excellent problem-solving and strategic thinking skills, strong research aptitude ability to analyse complex quantitative and qualitative data and formulate solutions
  • Knowledge of open source programs like R Programming, Python or any other data analysis software
  • Proven experience in leading, coordinating and managing data and M&E initiatives and projects with social enterprises or private sector enterprises are highly preferred.
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder-facing skills
  • High level of flexibility and responsiveness with the ability to shift priorities quickly and as organisational demands require

Remuneration

Remuneration will be competitive with Indian philanthropy pay scales and will depend upon the candidate’s experience.
