Wadhwani Foundation is a not-for-profit with the primary mission of accelerating economic development in emerging economies by driving large-scale job creation through entrepreneurship, innovation and skills development. The Role Context:  

The Wadhwani Foundation works in partnership with governments, foundations, corporations, and educational institutes through the initiatives to empower millions of students with core and future job-ready skills to attain sustainable family wages; to inspire, educate and enable tens of thousands of start-up entrepreneurs; and empower thousands of small and medium size businesses with capabilities to maximize their growth potential. Foundation also skills govt officials on new and emerging technologies and works on policy matters as a think tank.

Keeping in view the centrality of jobs to its mission, Wadhwani Foundation is looking for an expert who specializes in strategy for jobs to advise the Foundation as well as its stakeholders including the Government of India on creation of net new 100 million jobs in India in next ten years.

Key Responsibilities:

The Director of Policy Strategy will be at the forefront of our mission to develop a strategic plan for the creation of 100 million net new jobs in India over the next decade. This is an extraordinary opportunity for an expert in employment policies and job creation strategies. S/he will study the policies of various ministries of the government to understand policy landscapes, identify gaps, and provide recommendations on what government needs to do to achieve creation of 100 million net new jobs in next ten years in India. As the lead for this project, s/he will work closely with the CEO WITP and President of Wadhwani Foundation and the rest of our team, as well as liaise with government officials and policymakers, to shape policies related to this initiative.

Responsibilities:

  • Policy Strategy Development: Develop and propose a strategic policy plan aimed at creating 100 million net new jobs in India over the next ten years.
  • Policy Analysis: Analyze current policies of the Government of India, assessing their impact and effectiveness in the context of job creation.
  • Gap Identification: Identify policy gaps and develop solutions that can help increase job creation, which could in the shape of changes in the existing policies as well as policies for new sectors of economy where jobs will get created.  
  • Research: Conduct extensive research on employment trends, job creation strategies, policy impacts, and successful case studies from around the world.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with government officials, policymakers, team members, and external partners to advocate for and implement policy recommendations.
  • Communication: Present policy proposals, findings, and progress reports to a variety of audiences, including team members, stakeholders, government officials, and the public.
  • Reporting: Regularly update the CEO-WITP and thru him to President of Wadhwani Foundation on policy developments, strategic recommendations, and progress towards job creation goals.

Qualifications:

1.  Master’s degree or higher in Economics, Public Policy, or a related field.

2.  Demonstrable expertise in the area of jobs and employment policy, preferably  with a focus on large-scale job creation strategies.

3.  Proven track record in policy strategy and planning, ideally with experience influencing policy at the national level.

4.  Exceptional analytical skills, with the ability to analyse complex policies and synthesize actionable recommendations.

5.  Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with experience presenting to high-level stakeholders and policymakers.

6.  Hands on leadership (player-coach)

8.  Practical perspectives that consider implementation and not just assessment

9.  Ability to engage policy makers and leaders on insights and recommendations

10.Strong understanding of the Indian job market, employment trends, and the skilling and entrepreneurship ecosystem.

11.Proficiency in statistical software, data analysis, and forecasting is highly desirable.

Key Performance Indicators:

·         Client Satisfaction: Measured via feedback from client based on the documents prepared by the Director for top ten sectors which will see maximum creation on et new jobs in India .

·         Number of research papers published and papers presented in national/international seminars

·         Knowledge Updates: Measured by tracking the director’s participation in continued education, seminars, webinars, etc., regarding jobs.

 Behavioural attributes: 

·         Ability to work independently with minimal oversight,

·         Should be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and solve problems.

Ability to work under pressure.

Strong work ethics.

·         Should have soft skills to build positive relationships with stakeholders.
