About IHAT:

Background: 

India Health Action Trust (IHAT) aims at improving public health initiatives by supporting programs nationally and globally through providing comprehensive technical assistance in program planning, management and monitoring. IHAT has set up a Technical Support Unit (TSU) for the Government of Uttar Pradesh to provide techno-managerial assistance to improve the coverage of key reproductive, maternal, new-born, child health and nutrition (RMNCHN) interventions and services in the state from the funding support of Bill & Melinda Gate Foundation (BMGF) through University of Manitoba (UOM), Canada.

The Uttar Pradesh Technical Support Unit (UPTSU) was formed in 2013 to provide techno-managerial support to the Government of Uttar Pradesh (GoUP) pursuant to the Memorandum of Cooperation between the GoUP and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The University of Manitoba (UoM) leads the program and has partnered with IHAT to support the government in strengthening its Reproductive, Maternal, New-born and Child Health (RMNCH) and Nutrition programs.

About Program:

The NFRU team shall provide technical support to the Government of Uttar Pradesh to facilitate key interventions in the thematic areas of maternal and newborn health with special focus on BEmONC services. This is expected to be done through development of responsive strategies, quality of maternal and newborn health care in Labour room, OT through Nurse Mentoring,  NBCC and NBSU, facility strengthening including LaQshya certification, capacity building, regular reviews and monitoring.

The Nurse Mentor will report to the Senior Specialist-RMNCHN

Job Summary :

The nurse mentors are expected to work at the health facilities at district/block/ sub-block level to interact with the health facility staff, facilitate self-assessment exercises and action planning, identify mentoring needs and provide onsite mentoring to delivery point staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities: 

·       Improvement in the competency (OSCE score) of the SNs of the LR and OT in the key                  BEmOC skills.

·       Improvement in the quality of service provision of the LR including RMC

·       Improvement in the key service indicators of the LR of the DWH/DCH as evident from the facility score card.

Key inputs expected from the Job Role :

·       Good liaison with the CMS/matron/SNs/ MH consultant and hospital manager for healthy mentor-mentee relationship.

·       Mapping of all SNs of the LR and OT and preparation of onsite mentoring plan as per the MSL guidelines.

·       Timely OSCE and mentoring of SNs as per the mentoring plan.

·       Support the Quality circle of the LR and OT in monthly QI meetings and development of action plans.

·       Support the facility in LaQshya assessment and certification process.

·       Do periodic visits to the block CHCs to provide hand-hold support to the Govt NMs in mentoring and OSCE, perform DODs and provide mentoring to the Govt NMs on the clinical topics , QI process and conduct their OSCEs.

·       Additional tasks as may be added to the Job Description from time to time for the job role

Work Experience:

Essential Experience : Working in Labour Rooms for 6-12 months

Preferred Experience: Those who have worked as nursing tutors and mentoring program will be given weightage

Education:

Required Qualification : BSc /Post Basic BSc Nursing

Preferred Qualification: MSc Nursing
