Summary

Program Coordinator, South Asia Government Relations is a role for a talented, ambitious and experienced climate policy and international development professional to join our dynamic team in New Delhi. They will have the opportunity to play a critical role in driving ambitious climate policy in state and regional governments in this region by engaging with relevant stakeholders across government, business and civil society and support on project delivery via research, outreach and communications support.

The selected candidate will support in delivery and management of key projects with relevant stakeholders in India and other Asian regions, reporting to Program Officer/ Senior Program Officer – South Asia Government Relations.

This is a full-time position, starting as soon as possible, based in Climate Group’s New Delhi office.

About the role

  • Support on India program delivery: Support ongoing projects under the governments and policy stream at Climate Group.

Key responsibilities will include:

Research

  • Conduct background research on latest policy updates, project-related research, and analysis in the region
  • Contribute to knowledge via blogs, policy briefs and articles based on program learnings on state climate leadership
  • Support on states outreach via database management, strengthening the knowledge hub, input to India and global newsletters, organising webinars, and other events associated with government engagement in Asia
  • Support regular and positive relationship and communication with subnational governments (both members and non-members of the Under2 Coalition) to ensure the involvement of members in our existing and future programs and initiatives
  • Regular liaison with government departments on change in leadership, key program development and opportune moments for engagement

Communications and Events support

  • Support the Program team in organising webinars, workshops, policy dialogues, global showcasing events such as Climate Week NYC, Under2 General Assembly, regional members’ meetings, and other state specific events
  • Work with the Program and Communications teams to support effective, external communication, outreach, events handling and other logistics

Government Engagement Asia

  • Support in the research and outreach on other Under2 member regions such as Indonesia, South Korea, etc.

Support to India Executive Director

  • Provide research support to India Executive Director on her thought leadership pieces and key moments of outreach and external engagement

About you

  • Postgraduate with a degree related to climate change/ public policy/ development/ economics/ international development
  • 1 or more years of experience in area of climate change/ public policy/ development/ economics/ international development
  • Relevant experience working on climate policy or related issues in India/South Asia with strong professional references
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, including high-level partners knowledge of state climate action and policies in India (especially focusing on State Action Plans on Climate Change) and state governance structure, understanding of international climate policies and negotiations
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to adapt as needed dependent on medium and audience
  • Knowledge of India’s latest climate commitments and policies like updated NDC, Mission LiFE (Lifestyle For Environment), Long-Term Low Emissions Development Strategy (LT-LEDS), etc.
  • Self-motivated, solutions-oriented and ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to listen actively, be diplomatic, and share knowledge and information well
  • Demonstrated ability in problem identification and understanding, conceptualising solutions, convening stakeholders, communication (spoken and written), and implementing solutions
