About the Museum of Art & Photography

The Museum of Art & Photography (MAP) is a new and innovative museum opening in February 2023 in Bangalore. MAP’s mission is to exhibit, interpret and preserve a growing collection of art and cultural artefacts, motivated by a belief that museums can play a positive role in society.

MAP is the custodian of a growing collection of over 60,000 artworks, predominantly from the Indian subcontinent and dating from the 12th century to the present. Its flagship site will include five galleries, an auditorium, an art and research library, an education centre, a multimedia centre and a specialised research and conservation facility. From here, MAP will produce exhibitions, encourage and foster new academic research and improve access and understanding of the visual arts in India, focusing on
building new audiences. While the museum’s physical space is being built, MAP is carrying out its mission by actively reaching out to the local community, particularly to schools in Bengaluru, through various programmes and projects, including artist loans, art exhibitions, workshops and lectures. MAP’s long-term strategy is to be a sustainable and scalable model and catalyst for further positive change in the museum sector in India through capacity building and knowledge-sharing. online and in December 2020, MAP also launched its digital museum to reach audiences across the country and beyond.

Role Overview

The Reception and Front Desk is a front-ending role that interfaces with visitors to the Museum with due consideration of MAP`s vision and goals to ensure a friendly, inclusive, and secure experience for all visitors.

Duties and Responsibilities

● Maintaining hygiene and safety standards of the reception area, ensuring that the reception area and all common areas are clean and tidy at all times.

● Welcome visitors in a warm and friendly manner, and answer any questions visitors may have.

● Guide visitors to respective destinations by connecting responsible staff to support requirements of inclusions and other support.

● Keep detailed and accurate records of visitor requests and calls received as per the protocol defined by MAP

● Operate standard office equipment in the reception area regularly, including visitor kiosk, ticket vending machine, etc.,

● Receive different deliveries; sort and distributes them promptly with admin support

● Maintain the general office filing system for the front office and reception data

● Managing incoming telephone line telecommunications systems and answering and directing phone calls in a polite and friendly manner, transferring calls as necessary

● Handling queries by phone, email, and general correspondence

● Taking and ensuring messages are passed to the appropriate staff member on time

● Handling travel arrangements if and when required

● Communicate internal and external events information with stakeholders who are and visitors seeking the information at the desk.

● Active help desk for support for all programs and events

Requirements

● Bachelor’s degree preferred, diploma accepted with equivalent experience

● 2+ years experience as a Receptionist or front desk executive

● Good command of English, Kannada & Hindi

● Exceptional guest and visitors service skills and telephone etiquette

● Good Computer Knowledge, including working on spreadsheets and word-processing documents

● Ability to create an organized filing system

Desirable:

● Professionals from the hospitality industry

● Experience working in Museums

● Experience working for a not-for-profit organization is an added advantage
