**About the World Health Organization (WHO):** The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for international public health. Its primary role is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations’ system. WHO’s work focuses on improving global health, particularly in areas such as maternal and child health, infectious disease control, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
**Job Summary:**
The Regional Adviser will provide technical and strategic guidance to Member States on maternal and reproductive health programs, contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets. This role involves collaborating with national authorities, NGOs, and international organizations to develop and implement effective health policies and programs. The successful candidate will also play a key role in capacity building, resource mobilization, research promotion, and advocacy.
**Responsibilities:**
* Provide technical and strategic guidance to Member States on maternal and reproductive health programs.
* Support the development and implementation of comprehensive, integrated health services.
* Provide guidance and technical support for Maternal, Perinatal Death surveillance and Responses (MPDSR).
* Participate in the formulation and implementation of maternal and reproductive health policies and plans.
* Build country capacity in sexual, reproductive, maternal, and newborn health program planning.
* Mobilize resources from donors and partners.
* Promote research in sexual, reproductive, maternal, and newborn health.
* Support the work of WHO Collaborating Centres and national centers of expertise.
* Coordinate advocacy and communication activities to promote positive community behavior.
* Establish and maintain technical advisory groups.
**Qualifications:**
**Education:**
* **Essential:** Medical degree from a recognized university and a postgraduate degree in Medicine or Public Health, specializing in maternal and reproductive health.
* **Desirable:** Doctoral degree or extensive training in sexual, reproductive, and maternal health.
**Experience:**
* **Essential:** At least ten years of experience in developing and implementing sexual, reproductive, maternal, and newborn health programs in developing countries, with significant international experience.
* **Desirable:** Experience working with WHO, UN agencies, or other international organizations in maternal and reproductive health.
**Skills:**
* Extensive knowledge of programmatic and technical support for national maternal and reproductive health programs.
* Experience in proposal development, analysis, and project management in maternal and reproductive health.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration at national and international levels.
* Strong negotiation skills with national ministries, international agencies, and donors.
* **Desirable:** Knowledge of newborn health.
**Languages:**
* **Essential:** Expert knowledge of English.
**Remuneration:** The annual base salary starts at USD 92,731 (subject to deductions for pension and health insurance), plus a variable post adjustment (currently USD 3771 per month for New Delhi). Additional benefits include annual leave, allowances for dependents, home leave, and an education grant.
