The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) is expanding its Climate Change and Sustainability team. We are seeking a skilled and motivated graduate with 1-2 years’ post-qualification professional experience to join us as a Research Assistant. The ideal candidate will have a degree in environmental science/economics, energy engineering, mathematics/physics, or a related field, be familiar with energy systems, and climate change and development studies, and possess good computer programming skills.
About CSEP
CSEP is based in New Delhi and registered as a company limited by shares and not for profit, under Sec. 8 of the Companies Act, 1956 (now Sec. 8 of Companies Act, 2013). It conducts independent, policy-oriented research and provides evidence-based recommendations to the challenges facing India and the world, drawing on the expertise of its researchers and distinguished fellows, and interactions with policymakers. Our researchers work across the domains of Economic Growth and Development including Urbanisation; Energy, Natural Resources, Climate Change and Sustainability; and Foreign Policy and Security. All our research and policy recommendations are publicly accessible.
Key responsibilities:
- Conduct secondary research, and collect and maintain economic data related to climate and energy, and national accounts.
- Organise data into spreadsheets, and automate data processing and analysis with the help of statistical software/computer programmes (using R, Python, etc.)
- Support in preparing reports and presentations with visualisations and exhibits
- Help with coordination across teams working on cross-disciplinary research projects
Qualifications:
- Degree in environmental science/economics, energy engineering, mathematics/physics, or similar
- 1-2 years’ full-time work experience in policy research or a similar role
- Excellent secondary research and data collection skills, and strong analytical abilities
- Good data management skills (Excel), and knowledge of computer programming for data analysis (R, Python, etc.) and visualisation
- Familiarity with energy systems, and climate change and development studies
