**Job Description: Research Consultant – Revitalizing Traditional Water Tanks for Climate Adaptation in India – J-PAL South Asia**

The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) is a global research center dedicated to reducing poverty by ensuring that policy is informed by scientific evidence. J-PAL conducts randomized impact evaluations to answer critical questions in the fight against poverty, anchored by a network of over 1,000 researchers worldwide. J-PAL South Asia, based at the Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR) in India, focuses on analyzing and disseminating research results while building partnerships with policymakers to scale effective programs.
**Position Overview:**
J-PAL South Asia seeks a qualified Research Consultant to lead field data collection for an impact evaluation in India. This role offers hands-on experience in managing randomized control trials within a cutting-edge development research organization. The Research Consultant will work closely with academic researchers and field staff, contributing to a project aimed at revitalizing traditional water tanks as a climate adaptation strategy.
**Key Responsibilities:**
– Design survey questionnaires, conduct pilot exercises, and refine survey instruments.
– Recruit, train, and supervise field teams, including project assistants, surveyors, and data entry operators.
– Manage data collection and entry to ensure quality.
– Coordinate with administrative and finance teams on staff contracting and vendor payments.
– Oversee evaluation implementation in accordance with research design.
– Ensure compliance with IRB protocols and maintain relationships with partner organizations.
– Report to Principal Investigators (PIs) on project progress.
**Desired Qualifications:**
– Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in economics, social sciences, public policy, or a related field.
– 1 year of relevant work experience, preferably in development research or field data collection.
– Excellent management, organizational, and quantitative skills.
– Conversational-level proficiency in Hindi.
– Familiarity with Stata and randomized controlled trials is preferred.
