Our primary work is focused on and with young women between 12 to18 years of age from socially and economically marginalized communities. Milaan aims to empower adolescent girls by addressing the 4 dimensions that we have identified as critical for their well-being:

1. Completion of Secondary Education,

2. Enhanced access to information and services on Adolescent Health,

3. Prevention of Child Marriage

4. Prevention of Gender-based Discrimination and Violence.

Position Description:

To help support our continued growth, Milaan Foundation is seeking an energetic, creative, and collaborative Senior Manager of People and Culture with exceptional judgment, interpersonal skills, and a desire to develop and grow a value-based talented team.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Manager of People and Culture is a critical position that will provide guidance and leadership, play a key role in driving the next phase of growth at Milaan, and develop an environment where our teams can thrive. This is an exceptional opportunity to design and lead strategies to recruit, develop, and retain top talent for an innovative and transformative model for empowering girls from vulnerable communities in India.

The ideal candidate will be a confident leader with demonstrated experience in collecting and synthesizing inputs from stakeholders, identifying opportunities for improvement, proposing creative and pragmatic solutions, and thoughtfully designing process rollouts through a change management lens. The successful candidate will also need to be experienced in employment law, compliance, and labor relations.

Key Areas of Accountability

1. Identify and Recruit Diverse Candidates

a. Build on Milaan’s current recruitment and hiring processes to attract quality diverse employees at every level.

b. Develop talent pipelines with institutions of higher education and programs which aim to develop talent for the development sector such as ISDM, ILSS, Teach for India, etc.

c. Define, create, and execute the communications strategy and branding for recruitment and talent acquisition, providing an exciting and accurate preview to candidates who are considering working at Milaan.

d. Build and maintain systems to track and communicate with candidates.

2. Onboard and Train Employees

a. Implement and continually improve Milaan’s onboarding and new hire training process, making sure that employees feel welcomed, informed about their benefits, and prepared to excel in their roles.

3. Lead culture-building

a. Help define and create strategies for Milaan’s organizational culture goals, working to make Milaan an employer of choice for people passionate about making a difference in the development sector.

b. Help ensure that Milaan is an equitable and inclusive workplace where all employees feel valued and can thrive through training, coaching, and overall strategy and practice.

4. Develop Talent and Drive Performance

a. Continue to build and evolve Milaan’s talent development processes including organizational core competencies, goal-setting, performance metrics, 360-degree feedback, coaching, and biannual reviews.

b. Manage Milaan’s professional development programming, identifying and implementing training and development opportunities for individuals and teams.

5. Compliance

a. Manage Milaan’s compliance with all labor and employment laws keeping abreast of changes in local, state, and central law.

b. Maintain required information such as labor compliance framework and employee data.

Skills and Qualifications Required

1. MBA or related Master’s degree and/or HR certification.

2. 10+ years of Human Capital or Human Resources experience.

3. Highly skilled communicator; exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

4. Highly skilled at project management; proven success working in a fast-paced environment and delivering against multiple workstreams.

5. Fluent in change management strategies and best practices; proven success in implementing change across an organization.

6. Data-driven and results-oriented; proven ability to manage data/metrics and make data-informed decisions

7. A people person who takes pride and pleasure in honing talent and creating engaging workplace cultures and environments for staff at all levels and from varied backgrounds.

8. Team player who enjoys building, creating, and executing new strategies

9. Trustworthy in managing sensitive situations and information; discrete, professional, with excellent judgment

10. Collaborative; enjoys gathering stakeholder input to create innovative shared solutions that meet the needs of the organization.

11. Detail-oriented and compliance-minded;

12. Comfort with the uncertain; motivated to move forward, make decisions, and finalize details quickly once information is available
