Program Overview For Energy

The objective of the WRI India energy program is to inform and guide India’s transition to cleaner energy. The program focuses on three inter-related aspects of this energy transition: enhancing energy access, scaling renewables among specific consumer categories, and achieving higher levels of energy and buildings efficiency. Our energy access work is specifically aimed at ensuring access to affordable and clean energy so as to improve socio-economic development in rural and remote regions of India. Through strong research, ground-level implementation experience, partnerships with key stakeholders and communicating our work, we seek to achieve impact at scale.

About Your Role

The Energy program at WRI India is seeking a Senior Research Associate (Energy Transitions) to work with and support research focused on India’s energy transition, with a specific focus on Kerala. Reporting to the team lead in charge of the energy transition, the Senior Project Associate will provide support for the project, financial, and administrative tasks and help achieve WRI’s outcomes by delivering research and outreach on clean energy for the state.

How Your Day Will Unfold

The Senior Research Associate (Energy Transition) will be part of a focused team, with the following responsibilities.

  • Support the team in developing, building, and maintaining energy sector models and databases to track and analyze the energy scenario in Kerala
  • Support the team in conducting policy research and analysis of existing and emerging programs, their implementation, and regulatory areas related to energy and electricity in Kerala
  • Engage with key state agencies, attend government, private sector, civil society and academic convenings and discussions and participate in important energy policy fora and represent WRIs research, analysis, and point of view at these fora
  • Participate in and/or lead efforts to develop knowledge products to communicate the results of research undertaken
  • Assist in the development of policy linkages between energy sector and other sectors, such as sustainable cities, water, agriculture, climate, and socio-economic development.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the team lead, including support on research and analysis.

Qualification And Requirements We Seek

  • Appropriate Master’s degree in any energy, engineering, or development related discipline
  • At least 4 to 7 years of relevant experience in energy/power sector in a business, consulting, or regulatory setting
  • Demonstrable experience in energy/power sector modeling and computational skills
  • Strong commitment to and understanding of the environmental and socio-economic development movement and sustainability issues
  • Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively in conversation and writing in English and Malayalam
  • Prior experience in strong stakeholder engagement especially with, RE nodal agencies, local self-government institutions and other state level agencies in Kerala is desirable
  • Willingness to travel locally and ability to work cooperatively with others to demonstrate flexibility in fulfilling assignments is essential
  • Knowledge of the electricity sector, overall power sector policy development processes, regulatory affairs and governmental functioning is necessary
  • Be pro-active in researching and pitching ideas, maintaining connections with policy makers, government agencies and media contacts

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong research and analytical skills, supported by contribution to publications and research reports
  • Experience working with energy/climate models and power sector planning tools is required
  • Strong knowledge of quantitative research methods, optimization techniques, and modelling tools that demonstrate the same
  • Knowledge of the electricity sector, power policy development processes and governmental functioning is necessary
  • Willingness to learn new tools and modelling techniques to contribute to the on-going/new research projects
  • Be pro-active in researching and pitching ideas, maintaining connections with policy makers, government agencies and media contacts
  • Good communications skill supported by a portfolio of articulations, e.g., writings and speaking engagements related to energy policy
  • Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively in conversation and writing, including professional quality writing for policy and communications products
  • Strong ability to brainstorm and think creatively about all elements of their work
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others; to demonstrate flexibility in fulfilling assignments

Salary & Benefits: 11,00,000 to 13,00,000 CTC Per Annum

Salary shall be commensurate with experience and skills. WRI offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package.

Location : Kerela, India

Duration : 2 year as term hire (extendable based on performance and project requirements)
