WHO’s primary role is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations’ system. It is the directing and coordinating authority on international health matters within the United Nations system.

 

**Job Description:**

 

This position is a temporary appointment under Staff Rule 420.4 with a duration of two years. It is a full-time role within the SE/HPN Healthier Populations & Noncommunicable Diseases department.

 

**Responsibilities:**

 

* Collaborate with Member States, relevant units, and partners to develop tools and guidance for improving mental health and addressing autism spectrum disorders.

* Assist Member States and partners in creating national strategies and plans for mental health, autism spectrum disorders, and neurodevelopmental conditions.

*  Work with Member States and partners to strengthen the integration of mental health and related services across the health system, including emergency preparedness, response, and recovery plans.

* Contribute technically to the preparation of Regional Status Reports, governing body documents, and other documentation related to mental health.

* Liaise with concerned technical units/departments/WCOs and provide technical input in documenting and sharing regional best practices in mental health promotion and the management of mental health conditions.

* Assist in implementing the GPW 14 workplan, including organizing regional workshops and preparing meeting reports.

* Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

 

**Qualifications:**

 

**Essential:**

 

* A Master’s Degree in Psychology, Public Health, or Preventive and Social Medicine from a recognized university.

* At least seven (7) years of relevant experience, some of which should have been obtained in an international context working in public health in low- and middle-income country settings, as well as at a managerial level in the prevention and control of NCDs.

 

**Desirable:**

 

* Experience in assessing and developing mental health policies and plans.

 

**Skills:**

 

* Technical and managerial competencies in public health for mental health and related areas.

* Strong understanding of community-based health initiatives.

* Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to build harmonious relationships with government officials.

**Remuneration:**

 

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for this position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 77,326 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment that reflects the cost of living in the duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3009 per month for New Delhi. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
