About Ministry of External Affairs
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is the government agency responsible for India’s foreign relations and diplomacy. It is responsible for maintaining and developing friendly relations with other countries, as well as promoting economic, cultural, and scientific cooperation between India and other nations.
The Minister of External Affaris heads the MEA. A team of Ministers of States and other senior officials are there to assist him. The ministry is divided into various departments, such as the Political Affairs Department, the Economic Diplomacy and States Division, the Consular, Passport and Visa Division, and the Administration Division.
The ministry also oversees India’s diplomatic missions and consulates in other countries, and coordinates the visits of foreign dignitaries to India.
About the Internship
Ministry of External Affairs is launching the second edition of the MEA Internships Programme for the year 2023-24. The aim of the second edition of the internship is to bring for focus on the MEA. This will provide value to the interns and ensure better gender inclusivity. Moreover, increase diversity in terms of qualifications, domicile and socio-economic status amongst the cohort of interns engaged by the Ministry.
Interns will receive an honorarium of Rs 10,000 monthly to defray basic costs. Cost of one-time to and from air travel subject to a ceiling of the prevailing economy class air fare between the State capital and Delhi, from the domicile State or from the college / university of the selected candidates will be provided. The interns would be responsible for their board and lodging in Delhi during the period of their internship.
Eligibility Criteria
Internships at MEA headquarters shall generally be open to Indian citizens. The minimum educational qualification of a graduate degree from a recognized university at the time of applying is required. Internships shall also be open to students who are presently in the final year of their graduation where an internship is a mandatory part of their final year curriculum. Age of the candidates should not exceed 25 years as on 31 December of the year of internship.
