About the Organization
The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting raises awareness of underreported global issues through direct support for quality journalism across all media platforms and a unique program of education and public outreach.
Founded in 2006, we are now the largest single source of money for global enterprise reporting—and the only one incorporating this reporting into comprehensive educational programs that extend the impact of the reporting and allow students and the public to engage directly on the issues. The result is sustained reporting and outreach on topics that range from land rights, climate change, global health, and fragile states to justice and women and children.
We are raising awareness of the interconnected nature of the greatest challenges of our times and pointing to possible solutions. We serve global public-interest journalism in a way few organizations can—by engaging wide audiences on deeply reported topics and inspiring the next generation to value credible news and cross-cultural understanding.
About the Grant
Our mission is to raise awareness of the urgent issues facing the world’s tropical rainforests by supporting and building capacity for quality, independent journalism in three key regions: the Amazon, the Congo Basin, and Southeast Asia.
The Rainforest Journalism Fund (RJF), launched in September 2018, represents a major investment in international environmental and climate reporting. Through the Pulitzer Center, the Rainforest Journalism Fund plans to support nearly 200 original reporting projects over the five-year duration of the Fund, along with annual regional conferences designed to raise the level of reporting on global tropical rainforest issues such as deforestation and climate change and produce stories that make an impact. The Rainforest Journalism Fund supports reporting on tropical rainforests in the Amazon Basin, Congo Basin, and Southeast Asia.
International Rainforest Journalism Fund Grants: Grants for journalists reporting for major American and European news outlets on tropical rainforests in any part of the world.
Amazon Rainforest Journalism Fund: Grants for journalists based in the Amazon region reporting for local and regional outlets.
