This global “plan of action for people, planet and prosperity” is anchored on 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the agenda’s results framework that captures universal aspirations across three dimensions of sustainable development: economic development, social development and environmental protection. “End poverty in all its forms everywhere” is integral to the 2030 Agenda and it reaffirms the importance of multi-dimensional approaches to poverty eradication that go beyond economic deprivation. The Global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) is an international measure of acute multidimensional poverty covering over 100 developing countries and was first developed in 2010 by Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) and UNDP for the UNDP’s flagship Human Development Reports. Since 2018, the Global MPI is a contribution to the implementation and monitoring of Sustainable Development Goal 1 which aims to end poverty in all its forms everywhere, and to the achievement of the Agenda’s ambition and fundamental principle of “Leaving No One Behind”.
