**Job Title:** Economic Policy Analyst
**Location:** Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India
**About the Company:**
The Convergence Foundation, through its Centre for Effective Governance of Indian States (CEGIS), aims to strengthen state governments’ capacity and public systems to enhance governance, service delivery, and the effective use of public resources. CEGIS focuses on conducting research and analysis to improve policy outcomes and public expenditure effectiveness.
**Position Summary:**
CEGIS seeks an Economic Policy Analyst to join its Economics and Statistics Unit. This role involves conducting economic analysis on state-level policy issues in India. The ideal candidate will assist in evaluating policies, programs, and public expenditures, working closely with a team of analysts, economists, and senior government officials. The position offers the opportunity to apply analytical skills and contribute to impactful policy decisions.
**Key Responsibilities:**
– Conduct comprehensive economic research and analysis on policy and programmatic issues relevant to state governments.
– Develop data-driven insights and recommendations for effective policy implementation.
– Engage with senior government officials and stakeholders to identify research gaps and collaborate on evidence-based solutions.
– Draft high-quality notes, reports, and policy briefs using economic concepts and analytical methods.
– Stay abreast of relevant research and synthesise findings to inform policy decisions.
**Qualifications:**
– Master’s degree in Economics, Public Policy, or a related field (strong academic record for candidates without work experience).
– At least 3 years of work experience in empirical research related to public policy is preferred but not mandatory.
– Proficiency in statistical analysis software (e.g., STATA, R) is essential; knowledge of Python and GIS software is advantageous.
**Skills:**
– Strong quantitative and analytical skills in economics.
– Excellent writing and communication skills in English; fluency in Indian languages is a plus.
– Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team.

– Demonstrated interest in improving government functioning and using evidence to inform policy.
– Intellectual curiosity, adaptability, and passion for enhancing state effectiveness.
**Location and Compensation:**
This role will be based out of Chennai. Remuneration is competitive with Indian academic and think tank pay scales, depending on experience.
