We’re seeking a Grant Making Support Officer based in one of our hub or regional office to focus on the design, facilitation and assessment of grant-making training and peer learning events for program staff.

The Grant Making Support Group (GMSG) works with grant makers across the Open Society network to build a shared culture of grant making and help grant makers effectively utilize grant making as a tool to advance and sustain open societies. The GMSG does this by building community across the foundations, offering training and learning opportunities, promoting grant making policies and practices that advance OSF’s mission, and building and sharing knowledge of grant making.

Responsibilities Include

  • Design, deliver and assess trainings, workshops, clinics, grant-making training and peer learning events for program staff.
  • Collaborate within and beyond the GSMG team, building partnerships beyond OSF, to design, test, and adjust in-person, and on-line training and learning events.
  • Support and advance effective, strategic, ethical and efficient grant-making practice, conducting research, writing facilitation guides, and creating training materials.
  • Build a knowledge base of grant-making practice, including significant engagement with grant making programs, to understand the contexts and practices for different styles of grant making.
  • Manage projects, regional or global in nature, that include collaboration with staff within and outside OSF.
  • Coordinate with program and administrative staff in support of training and learning activities.

We Are Looking For

  • Significant grant-making experience, with a minimum of three years in a grant-making position.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt own practice.
  • Demonstrable skills as an effective teacher/trainer/facilitator with knowledge of and/or significant interest in adult learning and facilitation.
  • Experience in design and testing of teaching/training materials is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills. Ability to engage and connect with groups in a personable way. Ability to “read the room” and adapt methodologies and plans accordingly.
  • Strong project management skills
  • Collaborative problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English required; Proficiency in other languages is highly desirable.
