About IHAT:

India Health Action Trust (IHAT) aims at improving public health initiatives by supporting programs nationally and globally through providing comprehensive technical assistance in program planning, management and monitoring. Pursuant to the Memorandum of Cooperation between the GoUP and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, IHAT set up a Technical Support Unit (TSU) in 2013 to provide techno-managerial support to the Government of Uttar Pradesh (GoUP) to improve utilization, coverage and quality of key reproductive, maternal, new-born, child health and nutrition (RMNCHN) interventions and services in the state. The TSU has been set up from the funding support of Bill & Melinda Gate Foundation (BMGF) through the University of Manitoba (UOM), Canada.

About Program:

The Uttar Pradesh Technical Support Unit (UPTSU) provides integrated Technical Assistance (TA) to the government of Uttar Pradesh (GoUP), which focuses on accelerating progress in reproductive, maternal, new-born and child health, and nutrition (RMNCHN). UPTSU works closely with the GoUP at the state, district and local levels to optimize RMNCHN programs and services. The technical assistance provided by UPTSU is integrated within the GoUP’s health system response for scale-up and sustainability. UPTSU focuses on interventions to improve outcomes in Family Planning, Maternal and New-born Health, and Nutrition, along with Routine Immunization, Digital Health, and other initiatives.

Job Summary :

This position is responsible for supporting the research activities under different projects of UPTSU which includes MNCH, Nutrition, & Family Planning. The position will primarily be responsible for developing the concept notes of different research studies and conduct analysis for program and peer-reviewed publications.

Key Responsibilities:

Key Deliverables expected from the Job Role:

  • Design population-level robust surveys (mixed-method) for the program excellence and evaluation
  • Lead the process of peer-reviewed scientific writing and support in publication agenda within the team as well as with other teams.
  • Develop technical documents, brief notes, and infographics from the evidence generated through research.
  • Organizing, writing, and editing survey manuals, tools and other protocols
  • Conduct survey analysis including generation of sampling weights
  • Prepare a repository of all internal and external data sources related to health and other related data

Key Inputs expected from the Job Role:

  • Coordinate with government and other stakeholders during the research activities
  • Lead the process of data analysis to address the identified strategic questions and generate key programmatic insights using primary data (internal concurrent monitoring survey, program monitoring data and government data (HMIS/UP-HMIS)) and secondary data sources (NFHS, AHS, DLHS etc)
  • Lead the process of synthesising the empirical findings

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Develop concept notes for quantitative and qualitative studies
  • Generate key programmatic insights through strategic analysis and present to the program team/stakeholders that lead programs to strengthen service delivery in RMNCHN
  • Lead/support in the process of scientific writing for publication in the peer-reviewed journal
  • Develop technical documents, brief notes, and infographics from the evidence generated through research

Miscellaneous:

  • Any other work is given by the line manager or organization from time to time

Work Experience:

Essential experience:

  • More than 7 years of relevant experience and at least 5 years of experience in surveys
  • Experienced in analysing large scale data sets such as DHS/NFHS or other national-level surveys
  • Experienced in scientific writing and publication in the peer-reviewed journal

Preferred experience:

  • Experience in documentation of public health programs will be given preference

Education:

Required Qualification:

  • Masters/MPhil in Statistics / Demography/ Economics/ Mathematics/Geography/Management degree/Public health and other social sciences

Preferred Qualification:

  • Higher qualified (PhD) candidates may be given preference

  • Knowledge of survey design and research methodologies (Quanti/Quali)
